So what was the deal with that pic? Was it just gross? Was it obtained and used without permission? Was the image disrespected here on GFY? I'm kinda obsessed with images, so this interests me.

In my opinion it was just tasteless. But there is still a thread up with it.
Violations of "taste" on GFY are exquisitely ironic.

Maybe, but due to my age I agree with deleting the thread. On the other hand I do not understand why the other thread with the same pics is still alive.

Well, it's not censorship if it has community support, I guess.

it wasn't closed until someone that knew her posted in the thread........tho no actual reasoning given for closing it, it looks like a respect issue from my end......
p.s. if that was the reason thumbs up to the deletion

Somebody knew her? How in the world did that happen?

It´s a small border between censorship and common sence. In most European countries neither online nor print media would have used the pics showing the body. Obviously it´s different in the US. I won´t judge if the one or the other decision is the right one, but I can´t see a real reason posting the pic and making fun of the victim.

I agree. I think we forget that sometimes pixels are people, too.

Was the photographerr an adult webmaster? Or just a crazy coincidence? This seems incredible.

Yeah, and it´s obviously much easier on a board hiding behind a more or less anonymous nick, so after all I think deleting the thread was the right thing to do.
Don't think of it a violation of taste... think of it as someone not having even the smallest iota of humanity and self control. The images added nothing to this board, sort of like a Jim the Fiend thread.

There must be a line.
But let's scrutinize the fuck out of it, every time it is drawn.

I had to use "taste" because of my lacking English skills. Remember I´m not a native speaker.
Y'all watch those shows on TV with names like "Most Incredible Videos" and "Amazing Moments Cpatured on Tape"? There's a ton of them. I'm concerned. It all started out with "crazy stunts", amid the ever present consumer admonition "Folks, don't try this at home, hehe." But lately, I see all kinds of clips of people really getting hurt and there are lots of images of human bodies in horrible condition on prime-time TV. I'm worried this trend is going to continue... just like we needed to keep adding X's to adult material -- the collective attention is becoming jaded by these images. The sight of physical human tragedy is shrinking in its effect upon us. The digital realm is only confusing things even further. On the fake side, things are looking more and more real. And then the real stuff is just blending right in on our monitors and screens. They say that video games don't really make kids kill. I believe that, but I believe that there is an effect, that something is being lost.

I must be desensitized to things like that or something. The photos didn't bother me at all. I felt sorry for the girl, her family, everyone involved...but the photos didn't make me sick. I feel that photos like that should be used as a learning tool...teach people, kids in particular, what can happen to you. It was a horrible tragedy, one that I hope is never repeated. If seeing those photos makes one person decide NOT to speed, saves one life, then maybe seeing those photos isn't the worst thing in the world.
