So, in order to provide this "Canadian style" health care we would have to significantly raise taxes to pay for it. I think if we are raising taxes the money should be used to pay down the existing debt, not to make an excuse for a new one.
Once that is taken care of we can discuss new ways to spend.

I don't get why this graph helps your argument... Why would "Canadian style" health care require more in the way of taxes.. look at the
Canadian tax rate.. maybe 3% more personal, about 4% less corporate. To me it looks like
overall they pay slightly less tax.. And Australia, Ireland, NZ etc which have universal health are taxed less (and don't force companies to pay for their employee's insurance etc).
