My list of fun things to do with my daughter...

The worse is when i'm sitting around trying to think of fun things to do on a Saturday with my daughter so I came up with a list when I was bored and I just keep adding stuff on to it every week. Wanted to share it with everyone, feel free to add on to it if you want.

Go fly a kite
Blow bubbles
Go to a fun Church
Get involved in soccer / Ballet / Swimming / Karate
Go out to a nice breakfast or lunch
Learn Spanish together
Get professional photos taken of us
Go buy books at a book store and read them
Cut out photos and paste them on Popsicle sticks and have a puppet show
Make up funny poems or songs
Make funny youtube videos
Go take a paddle or row boat out
Audition for a movie together
Teach them Poker
Go to the movies
Rent a movie
Picnic
Zoo

Go to padre / Charger Games
Wild Animal Park

Set up a treasure hunt
make Halloween/Christmas decorations and put them on your windows
make some Jello in a cake pan and after it has set, cut out jiggly shapes w/ cookie cutters
Play board games: Trouble, Candyland

ha I know what you mean but the church from us isn't like that, they never even talk about god or anything just cool stories about life and shit, just a room filled with a positive vibe, they encourage people to come laid back and in flip flops, all her kindergarten friends go there, they have a damn skateboard ramp inside the church even, lol.

Nothing wrong with switching it up and hangin with some cool, up-beat people instead of my usual pot smoking, drinking everyday friends, lol.

ha nothing wrong with pot heads but most of my pot heads friends dont have kids and even though they might be cool for me to hang around not really so much for my daughter, they just want to smoke and play video games and stuff.

I just got full custody of mine, so that's a great list!

With 8-year-old Megan:

Telling stories I make up about her and her fictionalized sis and her mystic turtle before bedtime, teaching her English, inventing fake words, taking walks, just hugging...

With 11-year-old Cassie:

Playing chess, rehearsing her class plays together, indexing her Naruto cards together, getting her to help cook, and just joshing with her at night before bed time (she's a little old for stories, it seems... sigh.).

Sure there's more but that's off the cuff...

I have a hard time coming up with new things to do with my 4 year old daughter as well, but generally just behaving like an idiot seems to entertain us both. My wife never believes me...

HAHAHAHAHA!! My daughter is 22 months in 2 days. too funny!!

Opened the studio for rental today, then took my kid swimming. Was so cool!!! I got a big salt water swimming pool and today was only the 2nd day of the summer i went swimming in it. Been so busy working have had no time.

But to do it with my daughter both times was priceless!!

Im with you on that. And that is also a good list. If you dont like the thread, dont read it. Its that simple.

I like this list better than a cute dog post or a post about current events. As if i dont know where to get my news.

We are all in adult to one degree or another and its always interesting what people do when they are not working on anything adult related.

QUESTION to you guys with kids? How do you hide what you do from your kids and when do you think it is appropriate to tell your kids what you do? Any stories or advice?

I worked as a camp counselor at a lot of camps and the Kids always had fun doing the following as well

-Ad Libs is always a good one (the one where you fill in the blanks with funny words and have an interesting. random story at the end)

-easy cooking projects (you mentioned cooking) but this is more along the lines of 5 minute rice krispy squares using rice krispies, butter/margerine/marshmellows and a microwave

-arts + crafts-the younger girls and I always loved to make simple jewelry with all sorts of fun beads and string/not to mention coloring/painting/making EVERYTHING imaginable about of popsicle sticks

-trip to a small, local farm-sounds provincial yes, but kids these days (and many adults) don't seem to get where food comes from-usually ends with eating apples/carrots/tomatoes/strawberries and good wholesome times

Sounds like you have quite a lot of fun with your daughter

Tell her stories about what the world was like when you were younger. My kids love to hear about these things. They freak out when we mention 8 Track Tapes or Albums... and other random things. Kids actually take great interest in what it was like when we were their ages. Not to mention, they need to always know where they came from, good or bad.

My husband is in a band and always has been since before they were all born and I used to take them to some of the more tame shows. like gigs in the parks for the 4th of July and such. Of course there would always be the rogue drunk or stoner around somewhere and we used it as a lesson of what NOT to do with your life, telling them "look how stupid they look when they are drunk or high, you don't want to ever look that stupid, do you?" and surprisingly my kids haven't ever had issues with drugs or alcohol.

Don't protect them too far from reality, they have to have a sense of reality, of course as their age allows, but don't protect them from it. They will land in a world like my son's fiance is doing right now, where they are scared of literally EVERYTHING. She was raised as a very sheltered and protected child and she knows nothing about nothing. Can't use a microwave, didn't even have a clue how to turn the stove on and she's terrified of being alone. So there are bad sides of sheltering and doing everything for them as well. Teach them to fend for themselves........ show her how to do the laundry and make a game of it.. as their ages allow, you can make up all sorts of games WHILE teaching her important life skills.
