I just signed up for Zango. I will really see if the traffic is all its cracked up to be. I have a suspicion that the amount of traffic Zango drives from adult websites is next to nothing.Comment

i think you will be shocked. just make a list of the highest traffic sites... bid on the URLs and see what happens.
i tested it for mainstream mobile stuff... and from just one URL from one competitor that was also using zango... i got 250 clicks a day for US traffic (you can call them and ask them to set it to restrict traffic by geography).
pretty sobering. i stopped it after two days. its stealing. there is no way to justify taking an user that is trying to go to xyz.com because the owners of xyz.com busted their ass to build a great site and get traffic and then send them to abc.com.
using zango is one thing. a sponsor using zango is something totally different. i dont personally have a problem with some guy using zango who is just trying to get ahead in life. we all have to ask ourselves where to draw the line and we do it more than it would seem. but being a sponsor and robbing his own affiliates is just bizarre. more bizarre is admitting to it... then saying "so what" .. then saying "you're all just a bunch of idiots"
i am not going to go into details about my sites/landing pages etc. but i will say that i more than doubled every penny i spent in just a test. about 24% clicked through to the sponsor from my landing page (as opposed to 80% for adwords)... conversions were about 1:20 or so (as opposed to 1:8 - 1:9 for adwords). BUT - i was paying on average about .025 per click... as opposed to .40 - 1.10 on adwords.
For Lars to say he's losing money by using Zango traffic is just a complete fucking joke. Particularly when you have AFF which converts garbage traffic very well... and you are taking an affiliate commission out of the equation.Last edited by Pleasurepays; 11-18-2006, 09:57 AM.Comment

I though to myself maybe I'm wrong about sleazy's site, there is no way he's hijacking that site, I mean sleazy posted saying that he sees nothing wrong with what Lars is doing. I have to be sure before I submit this post, so I reopened IE and checked again
Furthermore, I checked a few galleries promoting AFF but couldn't see any affiliate id hijacking, maybe its just the galleries I checked I don't know.
I don't see much wrong with the ads on the toolbar, it is lowballing no-doubt but okay somebody installed spyware and thats what spyware is. Thing is lars did say a small percent of their budget is used for this sort of advertising but they are pretty much everywhere both AFF and CAMS ads are on the tool bar for all sites above. If thats a small percent of his budget I'd like to know where the big percent goes because I haven't seen any billboards or tv ads.
The hijacking is just plain wrong. The arguement we have to do it so other people cant is just wrong. Nobody should do it and AFF is in a position to be a champion of the fight against crap like this rather than an antagonist.
Last point there is no longer an AFF ad on jays-xxx-links probably in response to a thread started by jay.

min cost is a penny and a half from zango ( i looked it up on the zango site)

now you say - it's only on .05-5% of all computers - but the economy of it scales down too - it's not profitable to pop ads on a tgp - not even remotly profitable at a penny and a half a page.
if the hun could make $180,000 a day - i could pretty much GUARENTEE you'd see popups on the hun.

I'm not sure how accurate the numbers are, but i read a post where someone said 0.15% of their traffic was Zango Users. Based on 12 million page views per day, that's 18 thousand popups per day at a cost of 1.5 cents according to you. That's only $270 per day to present a dating ad popup to every Zango user that goes to the Hun. You don't think AFF could convert 18 thousand popups from the Hun into more than 270 bucks?26 + 6 = 1Comment
