    Anyone have sleep apnea?

    Yo gang,

I was recently diagnosed with fairly severe sleep apnea, and now I have to start sleeping with a "CPAP" (Constant Positive Air Pressure) machine + face mask. I'm a young guy, and I'm not carrying any extra weight around, so this whole thing is a bit surprising (and frankly, it kinda sucks). Anyone out there have any experience with this?

I've seen those things - looks like a darth vader mask. Can't be much fun to try and sleep with that. Haven't had to use it myself though.

Be interesting to see if others on here have had to try that.

Yes - I have sleep apnea. What were your O2 (oxygen) levels on your sleep test?

        sorry to hear that.

I havea friend who has sleep apnea but his was brought on by his weight. He lost a lot of weight and it got a lot better. STrange that it hit you and you don't carry any extra weight. Is it hereditary possibly?? I don't know much about it.

I have friends with this condition, too. Yeah, those dath vader masks. How long will you be using the mask?

I had my tonsils out because of it in July and just got out of hospital this morning after having nose re-bored out.

Obstructive sleep aponea killed me for years, whether I was carrying weight or not.

CPAP did not work for me, I could not cope, but since tonsils came out and widened my airway, my life has changed greatly.

The condition sucked, and I had since my 20's as well.

Good luck and don't sweat it - your health will be the winner !

A friend of mine has sleep apnea as well, started with 17 or 18. Just make sure you really wear your vader mask, it need some time to get used to it, but you'll feel much better in the morning...just don't carry it with you when looking for a one night stand.

yes, I have it - never knew why I felt like absolute shit every morning until I found about this. I'm also not overwight at all. Be prepared to go through a bunch of masks if you want to be comfortable. Most of them make it impossible to sleep. I'm using the Comfortlite after trying 5 other masks that all sucked. But everyone's different so make sure you get a mask you can sleep with. There's a lot of good info here

I HAD sleep apnea, did the sleep studies and tried the CPAP. I elected to have the UPPP surgery and haven't had any prblems since. you might want to look into it.

A friend of mine had severe sleep apnea. He did the mask thing for a few months and it didn't help. He ended up having his uvula chopped off last summer, which is rather weird when you think about, but it worked for him.

I did a sleep study and was diagnosed with it a few years ago. Wore the CPAP mask for about 6 months and lost about 55lbs and started to not need the mask as much. Put on about 25lbs and starting to feel the need again. I hate wearing the mask, but I hate feeling like crap even more so I'll probably start using it again soon.

Sleep apnea or sleep apnoea is a sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep. These episodes, called apneas (literally, "without breath"), each last long enough so one or more breaths are missed, and occur repeatedly throughout sleep. There are two distinct forms of sleep apnea: Central and Obstructive. Breathing is interrupted by the lack of effort in Central Sleep Apnea, but from a physical block to airflow despite effort in Obstructive Sleep Apnea. In Mixed Sleep Apnea, both types of events occur. Regardless of type, the individual affected with sleep apnea is rarely (if ever) aware of having difficulty breathing, even upon awakening. Sleep apnea is recognized as a problem by others witnessing the individual during episodes, or is suspected because of its effects on the body (sequelae).
