Got Spammed like mad, HELP ME!

Woke up today (late again) checked my email and low and behold 17 emails regarding delievery failure.

Looked over all these emails and ALL of them were emails sending people to a site called http://www.megarotic.com

I said what the hell and went to the site (minus ref code lol) and guess what? "The Napster of porn" etc, etc, etc, etc,

BUT, they have a mailer right at the bottom, fill out the email addy you want to send to, then pop in YOUR email and spam away.

I sent a nice little email to Megarotic and forwarded it to my hosting co as well, but I highly doubt a company that is doing a "napster" site is going to care one bit that people are spamming using other people's email addys

Anyone know what else I can do to cover my ass?

they are not using your email address
i am getting the same thing saying it is coming from my address

and it isnt a "ref code" persay
it is a code to download a clip that they used to upload to the site

i downloaded it on a other computer and it is just a wmv file withs ome japanese porn

I have been getting hit by the same thing for the past two days to my AOL account, 500+ emails a day. The only time this email was used for anything porn related was to sign up for sponsors several years ago! I have been out of the industry for atleast 2+ years.

Same here. I just deleted 119 returned mails. Some use a domain name of mine, but the bulk are using the address I used to sign up to sponsors with.

Same problem here. Had over 14,000 emails get past our filters in 2 days. We had to kill all our catch-all domains and use specific accounts. That kills about 90% of it!

Just to clarify, the spammer is forging the email headers, including the From, Reply To and Return Path with your email address to try and hide their identity. In any case, the emails you guys are getting back are probably bounces from addresses on the spammers list that are not working for one reason or another not spam sent directly to you. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about it.

got over 2,300 so far in the past 24 hours.. (I have like 40 email accounts, about 6-7 have been hit hard)
It looks like they are forging our address to send the SPAM..

I am guessing if it's not viral related, they are doing one of the follow things:
1-megarotic.com is trying to promote itself.
2-someone is trying to get all of ou email adresses (adult addresses) added to peoples black lists
3-megarotic.com someone is trying to take it down.

In any event, I've added the word megarotic to my blacklist filter (within the body of the emails), so if #1 was the intention, good luck for them LOL

I thought i was the only one. I reacted RIGHT AWAY as soon as i started receving bounced emails. I immedialty figured out what it was contacted everyone (hosting,registrars) about it. I then nuked the email address and contacted megarotenshit about it.

Oh yeah, went hear to see if i was the only one !

I see the spamed site site has a "rewards" program that pays cash for downloads so someone probably signed up and thought they could make some money. Their spammed links all appear to have since been deactivated.

Install boxtrapper as one of your spam guards on your server, then the user has to confirm his/her email.

If you don't want to do that you can forward all your mail to a gmail account and let google servers handle the spam, they got some killer spam filters in place and you can use their pop3 to download your mail to your outlook, if your still getting spam install cloudmark in your outlook too, with all those filters you going to get close zero spam a week

I don't think you understand what is going on here... this is not direct spam to us...

the sending addresses are forged addresses of our own..

the only way to safely filter it is so have whatever filter program you use on your server (or pc) to kill messages with megarotic in the body of the message)

if you filter out all undeliverable email, then you may miss bounces in the future that you may have wanted to be aware of..

plus most spam filters will not weed out bounced emails (unless you intentionally set them up that way) for the same reason of most people want or need to know if their emails have bounced.
