The government is getting involved because they have a lot of experience with Medicare already and they have seen how the insurers and providers have worked to bankrupt that system. Believe me, when the companies are done there, they will have no problem pricing every other American, working or otherwise out of medical insurance.
The costs must come down or be controlled otherwise the expenditures will break the deficit bank. If the government does not get more involved to restrain cost, what do you think will happen. Medicare will be bankrupt, leaving even more people without medical coverage. Do you think they will be able to go out and buy insurance......come on, we are talking about retired people who have worked and paid in to the system.
I think it is time that we have a goverment option that will compete with the insurance and drug companies.
Insurance companies and big pharma say that the government system would be able to lower prices artificially and compete unfairly.
I can see why they would worry about this. They would be forced to examine a more realistic price structure to work with.
