I don't think a movie would have been good. They had no idea how to end the show about nothing, how would they end a movie?
On the plus side the entire cast will be back together on Curb Your Enthusiasm this year.

Most tv shows that are funny for 30 mins never translate well into an hour plus movie. Reno 911, Southpark, the simpsons are all good for 30 mins, but longer then that and its just boring.
Long live the reruns, that show is still funny as hell.
