What if I buy a BluRay DVD Player but don't have 1080p?

Do you know how interlaced vs. progressive video looks? That's the difference you will get, except it will be probably even less noticable due to high resolution.

get a 1080p Tv, I got the 61' samsung DLP with 1080p and its an awsome tv.

1080p TV is the best.
However you will still have an awesome picture with your current TV.

I'd hold off until prices drop a little bit. HD and Blue Ray players are going to battle it out for a while.

HDTV is especially for sony III but no you will not be able to see any different at all

It sounds to me like you are asking about the difference between a regular DVD player and a blu-ray player?

If that's what you mean, then yes, it will still be tons better even if you don't have a 1080P set.

Regular DVD is only 480P. Blu-ray is high definition, up to 1080P. (you will get 1080i on your TV set)

Turn on a high definition channel on your TV, then compare that to a regular DVD. That is almost exactly the same the difference in quality between blu-ray and regular DVD.

If you are just wondering the difference in quality between 1080P and 1080i, then the others have already answered that.

1080i and 1080p are both 1920x1080 so the resolutions are both identical. What's different is that in 1080p you get a slightly better image because all of the lines of resolution are delivered in a single pass, but this is only a real valid selling point if you are viewing 1080p material. Unfortunately the way things stand today *no* broadcasts to my knowledge are done in 1080p because of bandwidth concerns, the max broadcasts you will get are 1080i and this isn’t going to change for a long time. If you watch a lot of sports on TV you won't be noticing a difference between 1080i and 1080p TV's, but if you are watching fast-paced action movies on HD-DVD or Blu-ray with 1080p, on 1080p TV's you WILL notice a difference.

Also for those who want to save a few bucks the PS3 will output in 1080p (movies at least, not sure about games), it's among the cheapest Blu-ray players if you can get one at launch ($499 for the 'base' unit).
