Getting dangerous where you live?

Just curious - in the last month 2 people that I know well have had serious crime problems.

1st one was in Florida - home invasion robbery - tied up everyone and cleaned out the house.

2nd one this morning a good friend of mine was ambushed at 6am - 3 armed guys overpowered the armed security guy and did an ambush of my buddy sleeping - tied him up beat the shit out of him with the gun butts and cleaned the house out - in Costa Rica

Just seems that I'm hearing more and more of this shit in different parts of the world - perhaps effects of the economy - or just people going crazy.

My wife's friend has her daughter and her daughters lover living with her for a bit while they get on their feet. It did not take too long before the drama came to a head last week when her daughters ex lover got jealous and tossed what was thought to be a Malakoff cocktail through the back window of her daughters new girlfriends suburban. The damn thing blew the windows out, buckled the rear hatch, burnt the auto to a crisp and caught the carport on fire.

The incident is still under investigation, but one thing that was nice, the girls had installed a surveillance cam outside and the stupid bitch that did this is now sitting in Sheriff Joe?s tent city. I have a feeling she will be there for a long time.

So I guess I would say there is always something going on in Phoenix....never seems to end.
Got to love gay drama.....

I have lived here for 25 yrs+. I guess I just don't see this "total shit" that you speak of. Crime has certainly increased since I first moved here but the population has more than doubled in size as well. I don't feel any less secure today then I did 25 years ago.

I'm not surprised there's violence in Phoenix, there's violence everywhere, just PHX in particular I always hear about people blowing shit up. A friend of mine had someone dynamite his tattoo shop. Like someone smashed the window, lit dynamite, threw it inside and blew the place up.

I've lived in alot of places and seen alot of shit, people burn shit down alot, but explosions... seems like it's an arizona thing.

I have never felt not secure. I am saying things have gotten allot worse than they use to be and I now pay attention to my surroundings and where I am.

Like I said, crime is everywhere....we just have to deal with it ;)

I live in a small town in maryland (50k residents) and the murder rate here in the past few years have sky rocketed. Just a few weeks ago a nice gas station operator that I know was murdered for a few bucks. Idk what it is, but it does seem as time goes on, the crime rate just goes up and up.

Its been a redneck summer here, I have kicked 6-8 ppl out of my retail store, last year I booted out one person all summer long. Last week I kicked a guy out in the morning, in the afternoon one of his family members (18 yrs old)came back and tried to beat my ass for "treating my daddy that way" while daddy sat in the truck egging it on!

Now I live in a tourist town that had zero crime until this year, the local cops are amazed at the stuff they are seeing this year.

A store up the street doesn't have public restrooms, so this guy asks and is informed the closest public restroom is down the street, so he goes to the back of the store and pisses on the floor, now that is fucked up... Like I said it has been a redneck summer.

I live in a nice neighborhood, but there has been one guy sneaking in the gate lately robbing people and messing around with stay home moms and there kids... I seen him one day and before I knew it there were cops everywhere as the lady down the street said she caught him in her garage trying to steal her daughters moped...

Nonetheless the guy was a crack head and got away because the piggies were too busy with the new cream filled donuts at DD

Nope, crime is actually going down here across the board in my city.

Community policing here is at its best. The officers actually stop and have a friendly chat (it really is friendly unless you're acting suspicious) with anyone they don't recognize. They stop *everyone* to do this. I am about as innocent and goodie-two-shoe's looking as they come and I've been stopped. Once they know who you are, you always get a smile and wave when they cruise past.

EDIT: I mean they stop you when you're walking around the area; I live in an extremely pedestrian friendly part of town where it takes longer to drive to many places than it does to just walk.

The cops want to know how belongs around here and who doesn't. If you don't belong here, they are not going to give you a hard time, but they are going to keep their eye on you.

That's why we have virtually no crime. And, if you do call the cops, they are usually here within 45 seconds, as is the fire department.

They started this community policing thing after we had something like nine homicides in one year in a city of 40,000 two or three years ago.

It seems to be working great. They are adequately policing without being overbearing or intrusive.
