but in case of some real award for contribution to the board, noone who really deserves it, would win it

heh there's no way to determine it, all you can base your opinions on is GFy reputation, which doesnt necessarly equal business achievements

Categories would be determined by the mods according to their interest, I just pointed to some to suggest what I meant to say.

Why not? Think about something like a nominees list then voted by GFYers on a poll. It won't take time, and it definitely would be entertaining.

Making it a sanctioned event would kill it, just like government intervention ruined Mt Rushmore. Seriously.

Nothing against the crew, but to be right there has to be an appointed committee, they are all powerful. Rookie of the year isn't based on biz, but what kind of impression they made here.

This isn't the XBiz Awards, this is the GFY Awards, and should be handled as such.

No it should not be a popularity contest, the rest of the awards are all that way already. Unless of course the award itself is for popularity.
Sometimes the best poster or most helpful is not the most popular poster.

It should also have a hall of shame section.
