rebuild it, rb26dett motor, single turbo conversion with an rb25 trans, that thing would be a beast and whoop all the ferrari owners cars on this board

It would whoop them in a drag race or in a drift competition for sure, but the ferrari would utterly dominate a road course, due to superior suspension/trans, imho.Comment

I'm in the process of pulling the LS1 from my car, I'll sell it to you cheap to use in the car in the original post. 300hp of reliable goodness.
FWIW my car would rape any ferrari in a straight line and about half of them around corners. Only downfall is a huge stall in an automatic
It's no Enzo but for a fraction of the cost it performs stellar.

that is not true at all, my g35 which has basic suspension modifications will dominate a porcshe on a road course, why wouldnt a 240, 260 or 280z not be able to do the same? either way the suspension would need to be modified to rebalance the weight in the car due to the larger engine. the only thing i really can see being better is the actual gearing in the transmission itself, and you can swap out the LSD in the rear to change the gearing on the Z.Comment

Not sure if this thread is for real.
Brad if your looking for something economical price wise but still looks pretty awesome and runs fast then check out the Ford Fusion SPORT package.
Fusions never really caught my eye but my mom bought the fusion sport and its pretty kickass to be honest. 18 inch wheels, 260+ horse, stiff performance suspension, 4 wheel disk, etc. Its pretty nice for 25k out the door.
Or you could buy your wife the fusion and you get the camaro.

Well first off, let me preface this by saying I'm a huge fan of Z's, so I'm not trying to hate at all.that is not true at all, my g35 which has basic suspension modifications will dominate a porcshe on a road course, why wouldnt a 240, 260 or 280z not be able to do the same? either way the suspension would need to be modified to rebalance the weight in the car due to the larger engine. the only thing i really can see being better is the actual gearing in the transmission itself, and you can swap out the LSD in the rear to change the gearing on the Z.
My opinion is that even if you drop the RB26DETT in there and retune the suspension, you will still have a car with an FR drivetrain layout that has a huge forward bias of weight, since FR cars back then weren't really 'cab forward' like the newer corvette generations were. To use the common F430 as an example, though it has 43/57 weight bias (on the 2009 model), it was built around that figure, and is well adapted to make use of that weight upon its powered (and massively wide) wheels. I think that by drastically increasing your power output and forward weight on a FR vehicle, you're opening the door to an excessive amount of oversteer (not like a reasonable amount is not good or fun, mind you) that will stifle performance on a road course unless piloted by a virtuosso of a driver.
Interested to hear your input,

Hey everyone..
Yeah, those Bentley options are a bit above my willingness to indulge myself. I have until December to pick my next car... just had the itch lately with this nice summer weather and a the prepaid lease.
I like the 5-6-7 series BMW convertibles. I'll have to take them for a test drive. Although one could theoretically pile 3 kids in the back of all three there aren't seat belts so I wouldn't ever do that.
Strange as it is, I'm wanting to buy American. There aren't that many sports cars to consider that are automatic and I'm not willing to go to a 2 seat car. I want the ability to put at least one kid in back.... Search continues!

What about this one from Lexus, it's actually got functional back seats unlike the more expensive 2 seater SC. It's the IS Convertible. Anyone driven one of these or been happy with a Lexus?

If I went with a sedan (doubtful) I was thinking maybe one of these Cadillac CTS-V's or just a loaded CTS. It's got all the creature comfort and I can fit the whole family in it.

..I still haven't found a dealer with a Camaro SS on the lot for me to test drive. Looks like I'll have to pick up the phone and start calling since they don't apparently return emails. Business must be good - LOL

Actually, Brad always says his first love will always be his 1993 Ford Escort LX. The Fusion may be a good idea. Not sure if this thread is for real.

I drive a CTS and have two kids. It isn't as roomy in the back as I would like, I tend to have to put my drivers seat up a bit with the kids in there so they aren't kicking the back of my seat. If you are looking at a Cadillac that is roomy check out the DTS or DTS-V. TONS of room and a very comfortable ride. What about this one from Lexus, it's actually got functional back seats unlike the more expensive 2 seater SC. It's the IS Convertible. I guess I was making assumptions - Looks like I'll have to do some test drives with the kids. DTS is just too... well, old people car. I'd probably end up in an A6/A8 before that. Hillarious! I don't know about a VW Bug but a Mini Cooper might be cool with the English flag, that's what inspired Mojo baby. LOL
