I have blacks in my family who have grown up down here (in the prejudice South) where segregation lasted even AFTER 1964 and they are in no way racist. Dont hate "whitey" etc.... Bill Cosby and countless others do not have chip on shoulder towards whites. No excuse.

Not everyone is the same... just because some blacks don't have a chip on their shoulder does it mean ALL blacks shouldn't.
That time in history was an ugly time of lynchings, overt racism and treating an entire race as inferior by the government itself. Its understandable if some blacks who experienced it first hand were psychologically messed up as a result. Kind of like war veterans that come back with psychological disorders.
I agree its not an excuse for him to act, in 2009, the way he did but it certainly provides some context for what he wrote on his Yale application.
