If the tapes proved Gates was being truly irate they would have released them already. If Gates wasn't being as "tumultuous" as Crowley reported we probably will never hear the tapes.
I can understand you being annoyed at Gates for playing the race card but look at what the man grew up with - I am not surprised he has a chip on his shoulder! I cant even begin to imagine what it would be like to grow up in a segregated world - think i just might have a chip on my shoulder too...
