I thought proof enough would be shitty fucking shows like Scare Tactics get multiple seasons yet an epic sci-fi series like Firefly or Odyssey 5 gets canned after just one season, and Odyssey 5 wasn’t even able to air all of the final episodes in America due to licensing bullshit. The episodes had to finish airing in CANADA! What a disgrace to such a perfect sci-fi series... /sigh
"In response to my attempt to quietly and peacefully opt out of mandatory prayer, my family received 180 harassing and threatening phone calls, 80 angry letters (half of them unsigned) and death threats. Employees of the school division circulated a petition against me. The headlights and grill on our car were smashed, and graffiti about communists was scrawled across the windshield. A black cross was painted on the highway in front of our farm, and scrap iron was placed in our hay fields to damage our machinery. These are the same people who tell us they were bringing morality to the schools."
That paragraph alone justified by beliefs about religion.
I'm as much for keeping the focus in public schools on learning and less on religion as the next guy, but what I'd really like to see is more things being taught to children like moral precepts, basic concepts of right and wrong, ethics, maybe some common respect and courtesy. "do unto others..." doesn't have to be derived from the bible for it to be true and utilized in schools for it's innate value.
Maybe society wouldn't be going to hell in a handbasket quite so fast as it is now if that were to happen.

I actually do agree with you. But I also have a hard time taking a lesson on morals from someone who has none.
We teach our kids right from wrong at home. The thing is, is we ENFORCE it as well. When our kids get in trouble in school, we ask them to explain themselves and take responsibility for their actions. We don't make excuses for them and blame someone else. A lot of parents nowadays blame everyone BUT their kids, and hope to find some way to get some cash out of a lawsuit.
Shit started going downhill when lawyers were allowed to televise commercials imho.

And therein lies the reason why I posted what I posted.
Based on your posts on this and several other threads that touched on parenting and parenting-related topics I would say that you are definitely in the minority as far as quality of parents go, as in you are the excpetion. If the majority of parents were like you then society as a whole would be far better off. You seem to have the kind of common sense that is highly UNlcommon in many parents, yet possess enough humility to balance your actions and judgements.
But you're right, the kind of people who pulled the kind of crap they pulled in Macgregor MB over the incident in that article are no sort of role models that should be teaching ethics to kids. In fact, they themselves need to sit in on some remedial classes on the subject, obviously.

Whoa, I appreciate that. Let's see how they turn out in 15-20 years though.

Why all this focus on crapping on western culture? It's the downfall of western culture that's fucked. Not western culture by itself. Western culture is not Christianity. Western culture is reason, science and individual rights.
But regarding the world, it's not just the "western" world that is fucked, but the planet as a whole.
