you are not talking about random people and random opinions... you are talking about catholics, the catholic church, catholic doctrine and the pope.
the pope came out and said something (after being pushed into a corner to do so) that is totally consistent with their beliefs and teachings.
not exactly unpredictable.
its not like the catholic church and pope thought abortion was ok a month ago and refused to grandfather this one in because of the paperwork.
