wordpress is for blog management. it does have a nice publishing system, but using WP is no better than building a site by hand in html. you have to prepare the files and manually manage each post. no automation and no content conversion.
i will say, if you want a blog-style site and you have a lot of time waste, then use WP.
if you want to run a large site that publishes weekly or more often -- or want to run a network of sites -- then using WP will be an extreme waste of time.
your time on a paysite (as a webmaster) should not be used for building the site or managing content. 90% or more of your time needs to be spent marketing.

The only valid argument you made is it's a pain to run a network of sites from one WP install. However, it's not impossible and it's very easy to plug the admins together, symlink content into one area... once the CMS templates have been created in WP - It's no different than any other CMS.
Not saying that how this system works... but it's far from impossible.
WP can handle millions of unique visitors a day. It can be locked down as much as any other software. It can be fully automated, it can do more than other CMS's in our Industry because of it's plugins and ability to be customized. And it has no limit on the developers you can find.
I wouldn't recommend WP for a huge network of sites, but a front end, members area, blog, tube, all in one type thing... and free sites, promo sites, diary, polls, reviews, ratings, auto updated with "personality" being added in.... WP is a great choice.

i pointed out WP is built for blogs. hacking it for another purpose isn't a smart thing, its repurposing the wrong tool for an important job. if you doubt this opinion, ask the wordpress people why they built it. im sure they'll say for adult paysites and for "Doc" to show how smart he thinks he is.

I know for a fact the Wordpress people will tell you that any type of site can be built with it. I know several membership style sites running Wordpress. Many sites you can't tell are WP run WP these days, every site could be a WP site. Some of the largest sites on the Internet use it.
