"Freezes up" normally means that some program is taking 100%, or
nearly 100% of your CPU, so nothing else can run, or it runs VERY
slowly. Hit ctrl-alt-delete, then go have lunch. See if your task list
is up when you come back and shows a process using all of the CPU.
If not, boot into safe mode and see how it works. If so, that means
some program which does not run in safe mode is the problem.
To find out which one, disable all startup programs and re-enable
them one at a time. Also try disabling Flash. Some Flash animations
can lock you up with some versions of Flash. The idea there is that
the Flash file says to run with the highest possible frame rate and
Flash does just that - taking up 100% of the CPU running the hell
out of some stupid banner.

Still no luck after all of that? Stick Linux on it and be done with stupid
computer bullshit forever.
