Some things never change in government!

Just got this in email and not 100% sure of it all, but it sounds about right....

Does anybody out there have any memory of the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY? during the Carter Administration?

Anybody? Anything? No? Didn't think so!

Bottom line... we've spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency... The reason for which not one person who reads this can remember.
    Ready???????
It was very simple, and at the time everybody thought it very appropriate...

The 'Department of Energy' was instituted on 08-04-1977 TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.

    Hey, pretty efficient, huh?????

AND NOW IT'S 2009, 32 YEARS LATER... AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS NECESSARY DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 + BILLION A YEAR, IT HAS 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES
AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES AND LOOK AT THE JOB IT HAS DONE!

THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY 'WHAT WAS I THINKING?'
    Ah, yes, good ole bureaucracy..

And NOW we are going to turn the Banking System, health care & the Auto Industry over to them?

Yep, those terrible liberals increasing the size of the government.

A good conservative would never do that. A guy like Bush who believes in the foundations of the republican party would never actually go out and create an entirely new branch of government simply to make people feel like he is doing something worthwhile to keep them safe.

.....oops. I guess he actually did that when he created the Department of Homeland Security. The 2008 budget for the DHS was somewhere around 46 billion dollars and they have around 200K employees.

They pretty much do nothing that couldn't be done by other already existing agencies if those agencies were properly run. When the 9/11 commission issued its findings they found that one of the major causes of 9/11 was the lack of communication between different government agencies that were in charge of security and intelligence. So there was too much bureaucracy clogging up the system. So the obvious way to solve that is to create a new branch of government. Give them position in the presidents cabinet and then tell them to organize all the other government agencies. That makes perfect sense right?

If a group of existing government agencies can't handle the job, one more should make it work perfectly.

KEEP YOUR HEALTHCARE... It's BETTER to have a CEO that reports to share holders tell you which Doctor to use, if you can be covered or not, what your payments are, what your copays are...

Fight the already going Gov Healthcare that already covers millions of people, a healthcare service people are happy with. Fight the system that already lets you select any doctor you want, has no co-pays or pill-pays... IT'S BAD PEOPLE!

The bureaucrats already control.. no wait, they already force... no wait.. Bureaucrats are bad okay, let the CEO do his job people!

You forgot one thing, its bankrupt. We cant even tax everyone 100% and cover future obligations of SS and medicaid.

The government also does not let you see any doctor you want and has co-pays and pill-pays.

You forgot that Bush moved a perfectly fine, non bankrupt system, over to investment in private accounts which horribly failed.

And when healthcare is reformed and pills don't cost 100x more than they should along with other medical procedures, and not having to go see a doctor and pay a copay just to be told to see another doctor, to pay another copay.

Anyway... lots and lots of room to improve... on an extremely all around broken system due to the private healthcare systems mad grip on everyone's balls.

You were going good up until this part.

Government regulations that don't help anything and only serve to "look good", like most government policies, are the root of the problem.

In order to come to a reasonable solution, one must first identify the proper cause of the problem.

The cause of the problem is we have Corporations controlling your health care in EVERY way. By the Gov expanding the already going health care system (not medicare) the one employees use, it allows them to regulate the price of drugs, doctors, etc fully. But not what is covered or who does the work.

We have so many things that had to be regulated, the free market gave it a shot and screwed it up, killed people - like exactly what is going on. If things didn't get deregulated in banking, we wouldn't have ever had the problems we did with banks.

What exactly is going to do better? Like the already massive profiting, kicking people off policies, greedy men that have to answer to shareholders that only want more profits or they won't invest more?

Or the already increasing cost of insurance, copays, and everything... people paying more % wise for insurance today than ever, yet you pay an insurance company.

Your insurance is so expensive already and with your massive extra costs like copays that if you add it on with your current tax.. no other nation, even with social medical, pays more in taxes than you do for your royal screwing.

Fact is... Millions of Americans have been stupefied by the lies, power and greed of these people. Stop being fooled....

                          Price fixing never works.

What do I think should happen? I think all forms of health insurance should be made illegal and make it about health CARE again. Too many people have been fooled into thinking that you need insurances be it from a company or the government to make "health care cheaper" when in fact it has done the exact opposite and will continue to even if the government takes over "health care" aka health insurance.

Or at very least health insurance should go back to what it use to be for, catastrophic illness/injury.

So under this new government run plan, I get to pick the doctor I want to go to? So I can go to 90210 and go to their best doctors for free? Man I can't wait for that line.

Ok, so no corporations and no gov ran insurance, and yet it's still managed by someone and somehow it gets cheaper too.

Stop living in la la land. Price fixing works everywhere but in America... la la la la....

This is a multi health insurance system, gov and private systems. By the gov expanding on what they already have, which works great. They can force the private "free market" to be fair... With the Gov system, you can already go where you like.

So yeah, if he is part of the insurance/medical group, why not? It doesn't mean he is better and it doesn't mean he isn't a specialist. It doesn't mean insurance pays for your trip, return home, out of state/location costs, food costs, etc.. because you choose to go out of location.

Yep, neither party has any interest in actually shrinking the government or curbing spending. Now it seems like they are just working on coming up with new and improved ways to get more money so they can spend more money.

Eh... that's rather idiotic. Just because you happen to be ignorant of what they do does not mean they don't do anything.

Here are just a few of the things the Department of Energy does:
                                      - maintenance, design and testing of the US stockpile of nuclear weapons
                                      - radioactive waste disposal
                                      - nuclear reactor production
                                      - funding for fundamental scientific research
                                      /(bb|[^b]{2})/
