Just the thing the US needs to use as propaganda to give reason to take control of all the internet connections.

This is going to be the new form of warfare. Instead of killing people, one country will bring another country to it's knees by killing the Interweb.

There is a real easy way to fix this whole cyber war. Whoever provides the pipes into the country can easily control the size/amount of data to/from them.

Now if they start hacking/creating botnets etc thats a whole different story.

Does that mean the other 100000000's of attacks, hacks, etc on every single Gov/Military US website, wasn't enough but this being from NK puts it over the top?

I am guessing MY ISP (RoadRunner) must be under attack, because my down and up is really shitty. Wondering if my PC is one of the "zombie cases" because my up is like .60 MBPS

Yes. Now they have an specific enemy they can point at and say "we must have control of ALL internet connections because N.K. is trying to attack us."

Wont it be great when another religious nutjob gets into office and has control over the internet connections. Should be good for the porn business .

NK has done this before, China has hacked into US Gov Computers... this isn't new.

Looks like the porn industry has 7.5 years before they have to worry about that...

South Korea has far greater patience with North Korea than I would ever be able to have. I can't imagine how nervous/frustrated they are.

Yes mass amounts of teenagers will all kill themselves because they can't twitter or go on facebook.

Seriously though, I wonder if something like this could be looked on as an act of war or state sponsored terrorism? I would imagine the UN will write NK a letter or two over this, hell the Russians and Chinese might even say naughty, naughty..

I cannot recall the book I read, but this idea is not new. Predictions of computer based warfare have been around for a long time, its the new smallpox blankets we can use against our enemies. Ive read quite a few books about tech based war theories, just cant place the title right now... if you havent read books about this, you should.

They have internet. they also run a cyber warfare unit that targets military computer networks in South Korea and the U.S.

In this case, they're using N. Korean spies in SK and China to distribute rogue softwares that operate DDoS attack.
from this activity, thousands of computers around the globe were infected with rogue software that told them to repeatedly attempt to access the targeted sites, a tactic aimed at driving up traffic beyond the sites' normal capacity and denying access to legitimate user.

So far, approximately 23,000 ~ 28,000 coumputers are infected and mobilized to attack websites in both countries.

I guess this attack is retaliation for UN resolution 1874 which is banning NK's weapons export.

We just need a few phenomenal hackers to get into the N Korean government's backend and just blast non stop porn throughout the entire country especially since you know they don't let kids have access to the internet. Bet you that will bring a whole new type of revolution

Amateurs to Blame for DDoS Attacks

Nothing to do with North Korea

In an interview with Ziff-Davis Enterprise Contributing Editor Steve Kovsky, Sourcefire Director of Vulnerability Research Matt Watchinski cites evidence of poorly written code, low bandwidth, and a general lack of sophistication as indications that the distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks that disrupted U.S. government and private sector Websites over the Fourth of July holiday weekend were perpetrated by amateurs and not the North Korean government. Watchinski, who heads up the Vulnerability Research Team at Sourcefire, purveyor of the open-source intrusion detection engine Snort, says that if the attacks had been a state-sponsored act of cyberwarfare, "I would expect far more sophistication in the tools and the amount of data they could actually generate."
