I live along the US/Mexico border, and have for 42 years..I can tell you it won't make a bit of difference..they will get around it..under it..over it.

The only way to ever stop the Mexican illegals, who make up the majority of illegal entrants from Mexico, is if Mexico can somehow strengthen it's economy and create enough well paying jobs to eliminate the major reason why so many come here. The reality is though that Mexico is so corrupt, it most likely will never happen.

The other way to stem the tide of Mexican (or any nationality) illegals is to create and enforce serious fines and jail time for US employers that hire undocumented illegals.
The money spent on the ineffective wall..would be better spent on personnel to enforce the existing or some newly created laws on the employers.

Oh and in case nobody noticed..the US/Mexican border is 1,951 miles long...700 miles leaves a lot of open border still...lol

Hardly what I'd call "breaking" news .... I first heard about this fence over 4 months ago ... San Diego has had a 14 mile fence ever since the early 1990s

I wouldn't get all excited, they'll sneak it across the unfenced sections. Fuck a fence, they ought to build a motherfucking wall 100 feet high and 10 feet thick and put land mine fields for a mile inland on our side. And we should round up the wetbacks and spics already over here and make them build the mother fucker one stone at a time.

Just like everything else Bush has done: half assed and too fucking late.

What I don't understand, is how come you can buy BC hothouse vegetables, and Okanagan fruit in Canada, where there is nearly no Mexican population at all, without having to shell out $10?

                        Who fucking cares.

My family has always planted a garden every year so that our money isn't supporting these fucks or the people who employ them. Not only is it so much cheaper, its always better food because Monsanto hasn't been able to genetically molest it or spray it down with poisons.

First off, it's Bush this, Bush that. Nobody makes any mention of who wrote the law, the Sentators and Congressmen that passed the law in the two Houses, or ultimately the voters who elected both houses and the oval office full of the same party. Honestly, I'm not even American and I'd bet I understand your own political system better than most of you half-wits.

Now we have people comparing one country protecting it's border from another country's invading population, to the Berlin wall.

Just try and think for once, someone, please.

Really, if you have to pay a bit more so be it. Australia doesn't have the huge illegal alien problem and I still see people eating in restaurants all the time. It really isn't as huge an economic issue as they attempt to make out. Either innovation will take over and automated or semi-automated equipment will help in the picking, or the price will be a little higher. Either way, I don't think a bunch of Mexican's not being around to pick lettuce is going to crash the largest economy in the world.

I don't know who picks the produce and works the fields in Australia or Canada but in the US, American citizens do not. The farmers are fucked if this happens.

Don't worry, we have a nation full of college graduates willing to do it

Seriously though this whole wall idea isn't a very good idea, you can always go under it, over it, or borrow some explosives from the drug lords and blow through it. What would work better is a huge, deep ditch where the walls come up at about 70 degrees so its hard to climb. Do that and the only way to get across is by launching yourself over it, but then espn could make BILLIONS by broadcasting flying mexicans

                                                ok

how do you prove that i'm reaching? how can you prove what might be if something happens that never happened before?

a simple fact of life... hype and paranoia and fears, rarely live up to the reality. i seriously doubt that trying to fight illegal immigration is going to have any effect on food prices in a store or restaurants. if it does, it will be negligable. gas prices have more of a direct impact on the price of cabbage than anything.

grow it indoors all year round and let a robot pick it.

if a robot can build a ford it can pick a tomato.

right. that will help the economy as well. after the $100,000,000.00 greenhouse construction boom, banks will rake it in with all the "No Money Down, 2% Interest - and you can take home this $25,000.00 tomato today" financing plans. oh sure, they'll tell you the base price is only $18,000.00 ... but they'll probably fuck you with the extra options and warantees
