DVI vs VGA on 24" or above monitors...

I asked the question about a month ago on whether or not DVI made a difference on flat panel monitors...

The people using DVI all had 20 inches or less monitors and could not give me a definitive answer.

I have to say, if you are planning on using a monitor above 20" I highly suggest you use DVI inputs and not VGA. The difference is HUGE. If you have any questions about it, stop by a CompUSA and ask someone who works there to plug in the same demo monitor of 24" or more into both a VGA demo computer and a DVI demo computer. You will be amazed at the difference in clarity.

Agreed. I see the different more when running two 30" screens than when running two 24" screens, but it's definitely there, for gaming especially.

Sorry that I missed your question before -- I would have given you the story then.

I use a 20" and a 24" and they were both on VGA inputs. A friend of mine was over and he asked why the 24" looked kinda substandard when compared with the 20"... So I upgraded and invited him back... Now he is like, DAMN! The 20" looks like shit now!

Cool deal. The only headache for me is disabling SLI every time I want to run both monitors (which, incidentally, is MOST of the time, so I guess the headache is actually ENABLING SLI when I want to play games).

How do you manage to play games and make enough to buy companies?

i see the difference on my 17" LCD, DVI is much sharper, thin lines have shadows with VGA monitor output

You might wanna upgrade your drivers, you can enable and disable SLI without restarting now.

It depends on the monitor, with some you can see an improvement, with other it's the same. For 24" or above you should use a dual link dvi-d connection to get best out of it.

LOL I dont seem to have notice any one say that DVI is digital and VGA is analog....

Any way digital offers a higher Screen Rez.

Even <20" displays will benefit from DVI in terms of brightness and contrast. Make sure you're using a DVI-D cable to harness DVI to its maximum (unless the monitor uses a DVI-I converter, in which case it shouldn't matter).

VGA is analalgue - using DVI on a CRT or DVI-A cable is slighlty better than VGA in terms of clarity, but you need to transmit the digital signal to the digital monitor with DVI-D - just amazing clarity.

DVI vs VGA on my dual Samsung syncmaster 225bw 22" monitors is huge. Dvi is the way to go.
