I know of about 15 million people without insurance that never seem to have a problem getting health care, or sending their kids to public schools, getting home loans... oh wait... those are the illegal mexicans...they are allowed to leach off the US tax payer...

Why I went with Kaiser, by V_RocKs...

I asked the same question about 2 years ago... I got some people telling me this and that... I had all of the insurance companies come down and give me their offers... I was told to stay the fuck away from Kaiser...

I got insurance through the NASE... Self Employed peeps... The shit sucked ass! It wasn't even insurance! Basically it worked like this, they pay set amounts for shit. Anything that goes over, you cover.. Office visits for nothing cost me $70... After the $15 co-pay! I had blood work done.. $110. I had a tread mill test, $170.

                          Fucking rediculous!

So I got Blue Cross... Same shit only slightly better... I still had to pay partially for shit... Not as bad but why am I paying $2784 a year for insurance and then my insurance company only pays out to the doctors $800 and somehow I have to pay out $500? What is the point of the insurance? So I can pay $28,000 if I had a heart attack? fuck me!

So I got Kaiser... Now I pay about $2200 a year and guess what? I don't pay shit for anything... I had a broken wrist... I paid a total of $50 for the two office visits... I estimated it would have cost me $450 with CCN (NASE) and $140 with Blue Cross...

PS.... My daughter broke her nose playing softball. I paid $50. They even set her up with plastic surgery to put her nose back to normal (remove the thug bump). My son had a hernia. I paid $100 total for 2 surgeries. Anyone who says Kaiser sucks hasn't actually had Kaiser. It rocks!

Ohh... A friend asked me what would happen if I was in a state with no Kaiser? They pay the shit just like anyone else... Only they pay it in full...

I've been taking a course on Insurance. However, I can only speak about how it works in Ontario. I wouldn't know much about it in the states.

here in hungary we all get insurance. but the medical system sucks!
during the election everybody told us,that we need the same system that works in US for example.
now I don't know which one is better...what do you think?

Canada - pay through taxes but overall the best method - no fees to visit doctor or xrays, blood tests etc. Hell for diabetes I get tests done ever 3 months - doesnt cost me a dime.

everything covered and we're shipped out of the country for free if we have to wait longer than a few months..

Me and my GF just took out a couple of personal insurances though to cover us if we die or get to ill to work.. $400 a year in total covering both of us and we are covered for $400,000 (death) and $2300 month (invalid) each.. not bad?

I have Healtnet PPO for medical and Safeguard for Dental. Safeguard is around $100 a year and Healthnet is a bit over $100 a month. I find that medical care providers are nervous of patients who do not have some form of insurance, even if you assure them that you have cash (I've had some weird experiences with doctors asking me if I have insurance before they would prescribe me a medication or medical test; they seemed very embarassed to ask).

There are some very basic insurance plans that cost around $30 a month if you are in your twenties and a bit more if you are in your thirties. I would point you to those if you do not want to pay $100 or so a month.

Just go to www.ehealthinsurance.com and price many different policies for your age and area.

Yes. There are a lot of different options.

When I worked in telco, I had always had Blue Cross, so I stuck with them when I started my own business. A bit more expensive. However, I liked the fact they insure everyone. So if you get cancer, or diabetes, or something else. Your rate is not going to be jacked to the moon. You still pay the normal annual, and they don't drop you.

With some insurance companies, as you get older, if something serious comes up. Expect your rate the following year to take one serious hike.

Keep in mind with health insurance..

-You lifetime maximums. Some are a million. Some are less. Some more. An organ transplant's around a million I had heard somewhere.

-Deductables. You can get a low deductable and your rates are going to be a bit higher. Versus being younger, and having a larger deductable, lower monthly.

-With some plans (not Blue Cross PPO for me though) you can mix and max on your prescription, and other coverages, maximums, and such. So you can nickel and dime your way down to $50 a month if you wanted to. But remember as you get older you will need to add shit back on.

-Pick what's important to you. For me, I pay for my dr visits because they are not covered. So they range from $69-169 per visit. However, I wanted MAJOR MEDICAL. That was my main concern. Not the nickel and dime stuff. That I can just pay out of pocket, and write off on taxes. Sure it sucks, but I would rather have piece of mind in case something serious happens where I do not have to worry about major medical coverage, and it either bankrupting me, or wiping out my business.

Last edited by Barefootsies; 10-20-2006, 05:46 AM.

I'm moving to the US next Monday, so I'm using them for 5 years on their plan for people moving to the United States. They cover hospital stays 100%, doctor visits 100%, up to 100 EURO per 2 years for glasses/contacts (which I don't need/have) and up to 500 EURO per year for dental. I'm putting my wife and daughter on the same plan before we move so we're covered. I think this is a better deal than any US health insurance quotes we've looked at, but we're going to get separate dental insurance as well.

Anyone without health insurance is completely fucking insane.

I'm going to take a $5K deductible which will give me a $323 payment. None of my doctor visits or prescrips are used towards my deductible, so having a high one really doesn't affect me unless I get really, really sick.
