what happened to the initial idea of hard link trades ?

honest , when i look at all the shit floating these days, i could puke !!! someone asks for a hard link trade and gets spammed by "add yourself here" or "hit me up on icq" shits ?! hello ? if someone asks for a trade, s/he is is up for it, so why not simply check the page if it suits your taste and set up a hardie before mailing /contacting the other webmaster ? over the past 8 years, things have changed dramatically - TO THE BAD when i started out (not even out to make any jingle) things where great with people replying to mails (seldom these days) and old fashioned traders (setting up links before even asking for the trade) but nowadays its like ellbows and knees everywhere with people burrying partners way at the bottom where no-one will ever go or even click ... very few of the old sharers remain today ... all that shitty script redirecting with surfers is ruining it for ALL imho ... i dont get it WHAT HAPPENED TO REAL HARD LINK TRADES THAT ALSO SEND SOME TRAFFIC ? are you too selfish to share ? ask yourself ... whats better ? clicked traffic from hard links, or diluted shitty CJ traffic heh ? boy, i am a lil "DWI" but hey, thats how i feel ... your thots ?

I always ask for people to hit me on ICQ or email me as I like to talk to people before doing hardlinks, but I totally agree with you on the fuckers that just spam the threads with there "add yourself here" CRAP......

I agree with the both of U,...

I also use ICQ to talk to people about their site(s) and find out if they even wanna trade with me, before I waist my time putting their link up and then having to take it down cause they said no afterwards...

As far as spamming other peoples threads with "ad yourself here" and that type of crap....

I've had it done to me and I refuse to, and dont even give those thing a second look....

I think they should start their own thread(s)...

If someone's interested they could go there and click on their links...

As I would if I where interested in using their scripts!

I myself would, and have, started my own threads for the purpose of having honest people come to me and exchange hardlinks manually...

not to have people come and say "hey if U wanna exchange wit me come to me",etc... If I wanted to exchange links with you I would have came to you, but I didn't... (so whats the purpose of advertising and fucking with my thread?)

and if I wanted to do that I wouldn't even have to start my own thread, I'd just go to there's and fill the shit out.... (guess people R just gettin greedy)

Well said man. This trading game has become a real joke. It just kills me when I post a message requesting for a trade and I see replies that say "Check Out My Site And If Your Interested Click Here To Signup". This goes for both hardlink trades and traffic trades. When I see this it tells me that the webmaster is either lazy or just looking for a free ride. In either case, I would never signup with them. I mean, if you can't be bothered to go to my signup page, why should I even bother to look at your site. When I see a post asking for a trade, I will checkout their site and then signup if I like what I see. Is this so hard to do??

It's ok to have your signup link in your signature so others can see that you are open for trades when you reply to ordinary posts, but I don't find it acceptable to tell webmaster to click on your link in reply to a trade request. Some use this method so abusively it has become annoying more than anything.

Time to wake up and play the game the way it was meant to be played.

this is just how things have evolved for the most part. you just have to go with it to certain extent in order to get what you need.

remember the power is in numbers and if that is how they roll then those that rather do it the old fashion way are sol for the most part.

I think the worst thing that has happen is this bs pr crap trading going on.

someone with a pr4 and 400 pages and links on that page does not have any pr value because it is devided to hell and back yet they insist on only trading with pr4+.

But... this is how you have to play the game in order to trade links now days.

I got 20 times as much google , yahoo and altavista hits in as past month .

I think if you have a decent link script it's ok, and if you work your script often. I'm constantly checking for links at XXX404.com and approving. I really hate the older link scripts on some sites, they don't work well for recips and they also don't auto parse the headers from the site.

Great point. I totally agree. I started a linking campaign 4 months ago & simply sent an e-mail requesting a recip link with the standard linking info., all this ICQ shit and games just take too much time ... if you have some PR and quality content I link. Simple. My hits are increasing and our pages just got indexed ... our PR and hits are going to explode soon and all of these linking games just take too much time away from the stuff that counts .. SEO , etc... Keep it simple.

I'm probably guilty of spamming my blog aggregator unfortunately it's the most effective way to get webmasters to find out abou it, I do do it manually, I check the blog and I don't just copy and paste what I write... if people are sick of my posts they just need to let me know I'll slow down/stop.

My preference is using ICQ, email is too easy to ignore, I've had far too many people arrange for a trade then they never put up my link, via ICQ it seems more personal.

I rarely trade links with sites that have a trade script, mostly because they just end up full of garbage.
