    Kenny, if it is an affiliate, then the program just needs to come forward, terminate the affiliate, and say "we don't accept scumware traffic".

    You also know that many programs create dummy affiliate accounts so that they can spam and scam and when people come knocking at the door, they can blame "some stupid webmaster". The neat part being that very few programs actually block traffic for cancelled accounts, they still accept it. So this method works great for a program, you can spam and scam and when you get caught, you can cancel the account and still get the traffic!

    It doesn't matter how it happens... the programs that benefit from Zango and other scumware programs need to take steps to stop accepting that traffic.

        For the record "adware" is free softare supported through advertising and "malware" or "scumware" is crap that's installed without the surfer's knowledge.

If we could either find some freeware or get behind something that could uninstall it I know that myself, as a host, would put up some servers to host the downloadable file for free. Getting some of the TGPs or MGPs to allow an additional link, perhaps one direct to the download, would be one way to help distribute such a solution.

                                    Guys, Zango is VERY experienced in that area, it isn't unusual for competiting toolbars and scumware companies to try to uninstall each other's crap. It is often what ends up totally killing a PC as two or three pieces of scumware will try their damndest tokeep re-creating themselves and killing off the other ones.

                                    Zango is reported to use the old different name trick for a reinstall trigger that puts it right back on the system... so unless you come up with a complete and total uninstall, it won't help much.

                                    Further, you might want to consider the legal aspects of specifically targetting Zango.

                                                                To my knowledge, and of course I could be wrong, zango or 180 of the past have never tried to uninstall other scumware programs on a computer.

But i suspect not all of them feel this way, if just enough of them did it I think the sponsors would still lose more then they are gaining from "adware". And since they are obviously concerned only with their bottom line they would stop supporting adware if it was costing them more then it was making them.

                                                                                We need to find out who is willing to start banning these sponsors until they clean up their act.
                                                                                This is the right idea, IMO. If affiliates display their disgust by abandoning these rogue programs like sexsearch, it will get their attention. Then they will have to surface and address these issues rather than hiding like rats and hoping they go away.

                                                                                    RF, this is why I asked the question the other day: Do we need a "no camsite / no dating site day" to show that there are enough people out here willing to take the steps?

                                                                                    It isn't about moving your traffic to another cam or dating site, because they are buying the keywords on all of them. For one 24 hour period, every click on one of those ads should go to an anti-zango site that explains how to remove their scumware in detail, including links for removal tools and an explaination of how these companies profit from end user ignornace.

                                                                                    I don't think we could make 150k uninstalls per day, but I think we could slow zango and their buddies down a little bit.

However, if the honest programs would provide all their members with a short tutorial on how to uninstall scumware, or simply just educating the surfer, even to the point of directing them to the right place to complain, that may be something.

                                                                                                Seeing sexsearch's lack of response, I commend Lars/aff for coming out, addressing the matter and facing the music. I'm just getting a kick out of sexsearch hiding out like a rodent and avoiding the board altogether. I wonder how long they are going to do that?
