Most directories have been rendered almost meaningless because of this kind of trash over the last decade. Even dmoz (odp) and yahoo have lost a great deal of the hit they used to give you.
I wouldn't even submit a site to any directory unless it is established, and has at least a PR4 at root level. -

I have a lot of 1st page SERPS for a number of my sites. I have not submitted them to the directories, and I do almost everything SEO "experts" claim you should not. I do not use black hat techniques either. Nor buying links.
I guess if you think PR gets you to the top of the SERPS. Continue to believe that. I have sites just launched in the past month already on page 2 or 3 for their terms. Others on page 1. However, keep in mind, I am a niche player. So I am not trying to get "pussy' or 'clam chowder' or whatever.
