I know gfy isn't the most appropriate place to bring this, but I don't post anywhere else really and I need to vent a little because I'm in total shock. I just spent the whole day at the hospital with my Grandma. I was there holding her hand, rubbing her head and she even cracked a joke about how she doesn't like my goatee. She fell ill with lung Cancer a few weeks ago and had fluid around her lungs. The procedure to get rid of the fluid around her lungs isn't a very nice at all. It has killed men in their 40s. She survived two operations to ease the pressure, but was not well. Anyway to make a very long story short about an hour or so after we left her we got that call nobody looks forward too that she had passed on. I come from a very tight family and this is devastating to everybody. It happened so fast. I was there with her today and she was alive. Not in a very good way, but still she was alive. I can't believe she's gone. I'm heart broken right now. I just hope my Grandfather is strong enough to make it threw this..
My sweet, beautiful Grandma just passed.

I am very sorry to hear that. Also, don't worry about where you say it. There are times when you just need to say something 'out loud'.Comment

Much condolences Martin my friend.
I can kind of relate, I had an aunt I was very close to pass away in a similar fashion. She had a long battle with cancer and also had to have fluid drained from her lungs. In her case the procedure actually gave her an extra year or so of life, but eventually she succumbed. That was about a year ago now and it hit me pretty hard.
All you can do is cherish the memories and maybe try to do her proud once in a while in your own life.
As for the GFY post, this board is just like any other message board, as in the regulars are going to eventually come to feel like they can commiserate with the group from time to time. I wouldn't give it a second thought.Promote Wildmatch, ImLive, Sexier.com, and more!!

I dread the day anything happens to my Gran. She's the best and I can't imagine how you are feeling right now Martin. By the sounds of it your Grandma was a strong lady, I'm sure you Grandpa will be just as strong. Sounds like you guys have a great family to look after one and other.Comment

Very sad man. It was hard for me and my family to watch my grandmother go. She had 7 living children which helped because we were all together. I hope you find strength with your family.Comment

Hey Ross, they both survived the Nazi blitz when they were little kids back in Scotland. They were strong. I'm told my Grandpa is holding up well. My Grandma was such an Angel. She would sing to us when we were kids and tell us stories about the old days back home. She had that witty Scots scene of humor too. She's gonna be missed a great deal.I dread the day anything happens to my Gran. She's the best and I can't imagine how you are feeling right now Martin. My condolences, but glad to hear it was quick and your grandma was not in alot of pain. Sometimes modern medicine has as many drawbacks as it has advantages. If there is a positive, be happy she had good quality of life up to the end.Comment

Hehe, this made me smile.
That's the thing with grandparents, even when they know things aren't looking good, they can always still make you smile with something they will say. It's like they have lived their life, and they don't want everyone to be down because it's time for them to go now. We all meet again anyway.
Sorry about your loss...

My condolences.“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”Comment

My condolences Martin to you and your family. I am sorry to hear it was so sudden I think that makes it a lot more difficult. At least she did not suffer for if she was not doing well when you left her it is my experience that cancer just gets more ugly and intrusive so perhaps when the shock subsides a little you will feel that at least she did not have to go through that horrible and slow decline. Big hugs to you and your family.

Accept my condolences. Shave the goatee in her honor then tell your grandfather what she said to you about the goatee and why you shaved it. You said you 'hope he's strong enough to make it through this'. This should motivate him.
