Who is "we"? Were you storming the beaches with the rest of us? The people who sacrificed their lives in that war deserve a thanks, but classifying yourself or anyone else here as one of those people is an insult to them. Watching what happened on the history channel or reading it in an 8th grade social studies book doesn't mean you had anything to do with it.
