ahhh.. Koi pond is now trout pond.. After babying some of those koi for 6 years through eagles, great blue heron, raccoons and such (netting the pond kept them at bay).. a smart little otter found it's way up the 2 blocks from the Puget Sound by following his nose to the runoff from the overflow and massacred several of them without so much as touching the netting. We pulled all that were left and it sat with no fish for a season. in 2007 my house was on the local symphony garden tour and my landscaper begged me to put something back in there. We got 50 young trout from a local place and tossed them in .. they eat like piranha..toss food in and the surface of the water just bubbles. Since the trout are like 50cents each we keep it somewhat stocked. They seem to be smarter and faster than the koi.. without the net there were still half of them there the first winter. I've got pictures on a camera somewhere of two eagles in a tree just a couple of weeks ago.
