if you've ever done any university philosophy, or phil of sci, you either like this guy, or hate him. most hate him. i lean towards the latter, but he is still interesting.
No he's not. Just because he said that he can't 100% rule out because scientists know that you can't prove a negative, he didn't just say: oh, what the heck to we know. His book is called "The God Delusion". Have you even listened to what he said? It disturbed him how a scientist can be a Christian.

Why the hate? I've never really looked at his work from a philosophical perspective... i've got every single one of his books on evolution (5-6?) however.

or the reason he's famous in the first place, genetics.
aha.. looking at the link now... His book, The God Delusion... right ok, trying to work out how one of the leading evolutionists had specific relevence to philosophy

not exactly hate. his major problem is ultra-simplification of humans and life. we are all just big robotic dna machines. i'm too drunk and uncaring to get in to it, but will do so in a couple of days if this thread is still around. i got married on Sunday dammit!

congrats on the wedding.
Actually he says that humans are able to transcend DNA, and that's what makes us unique. I have 3 degrees in related fields ;).

First up, congrats mate! I only recently did the deed in June too Keep that post wedding high going strong.. Amazing what a great day it is. (coming from someone who couldn't really see the point of marriage a few years ago)
Cool, hope i catch a reply if there is one.. I don't really check in much here these days.
I don't really have a problem with being a big robotic dna machine though, simplified genetic purpose doesn't override full spectrum of the human condition as far as I'm concerned...
