"Non credit card" countries

Hi y'all,

I'm compiling a list of countries with low/negligible credit card penetration to send to clients, recommending that they send traffic from said countries straight to us.

Are there any countries on there that should not be? In other words, webmasters would be better off charging for content via card, and using phone as secondary, not primary, processor.

I have always wondered which countries outside of the US use visa/mastercard the most.

As well as, which ones have visa/mastercard debits instead of Maestro, Switch, and Solo.

Anyone?

I'm saying that with these countries, it is probably best to have phone billing as secondary processing and plastic generally as primary.

And as WDG pointed out, Canada should feature in that list, not the other one...

lol yeah was wondering whether to include or not. Being a developed country, I guess most Israelis have plastic, but it would not surprise me if Israel features on card processors' scrub lists lol

and I am referring to the second list of premium countries that you listed.

What I would like to know, from anyone if possible is:

1. What countries have the majority of their cards visa/mastercard.
2. What countries have the majority of their debit cards visa/mastercard.
3. Which countries are more allocated towards Maestro, Switch, and Solo .. like UK? Etc.

Maestro is the Debit-card brand of Mastercard. Switch is being phased out I think. Visa Electron a must. Companies like Commercegate and Locallbilling I believe offer all options. For Europe's largest market, Germany, check out www.directident.com whereby, like with debit cards, the money is taken from the subscribers regular checking account which rather convieniently doubles as an AVS.

Google to the rescue : according to VISA, there 3.4 cards per household - and that was in 2003 lol - so Singapore removed...

lol I guess it does a bit.

I included countries like Hungary and Iceland in light of their current ecconmic woes. Care to share which countries you think do not fit?

i don't know if they have plastic alot, but as far as i know both Turk Side and Greek side have enough average income, i might be wrong though.

What about countries that are completely worthless. I'm using mod_geoip to completely block the following countries:

Russia
China
United Arab Emirates
Saudi Arabia
Turkey
Egypt
Pakistan
Ukraine

Which ones on Emjay's list should I add to mine?

Hey Altheon, no country is completely worthless. Hell, the cell phone penetration rates in some the developing countries in beginning to rival those in the developed ones!

Instead of blocking it, why not send it to a hosted "international" version of your site? See eg www.globalpartyhardcore.com - a surfer from Iarq will automatically see it in arabic

I didn't take a look at all, but Argentina, Andorra, Iceland and Italy to name a few have massive CC penetration. Now, whether to sell to them by phone or CC is another question. See, the main problem isn't CC disposal or lack of it, it's price and non-localized content, not even in the join page. But since nobody doesn't care much about the main page of their sites, well... it's quite easy to see one of the reasons.

Now, if you serve a page in the correct language where everything is clear and people isn't afraid to pull out their CCs because they don't know what are they commiting to, then I'd say CC is the right option.

No matter the common belief here, adult internet isn't (or shouldn't be) too far from mainstream internet. In general terms, what applies to mainstream (including ways of payment) applies to adult, hence, if CC card is the most common way to pay via the internet in mainstream (and in most countries) then it's also that way for adult. Now, adult pages trying to trick surfers (aka customers) with hidden cross sells or weird terms is the main reason to doubt before signing, esp for those that can't read the terms.

I included Iceland since the country is effectively bankrupt lol

Agree that the join page is the most important page, still amazes me how many webmasters stick to an "english only" sales pitch - especially when you consider that the pics and vids we sell need no translation per se, and we all have access to a worldwide audience...
