    Senate Wants New Meese Commission To Examine Porn

    Wow now THIS is some shit right here:

    The senator said he wants a new commission ?similar to the Meese Commission of the 1980s which examined the negative influence of porn.?
    and

    Brownback did not set a date for the new panel, but said he wants to move quickly ?because there?s been a (porn) explosion since the Meese Commission in the 1980s.?
    Wow talk about a McCarthyism like witch hunt! It just amazes me, in this day and age, people can still be like this.

    Apparently republicans have decided that for the 2008 presidential campaign, they won't use homophobia to get their base motivated, they'll use porn.

                  I did some research. Here are some interesting facts that I was able to dig up about Republican Senator Sam Brownback, the man that's proposing this commission:

                  - Against stem cell research, and organized a filibuster against a bill to overturn President Bush's limits on research.

                  - Wants Roe v. Wade overturned entirely, and an outright ban on ALL abortions. Has compared abortion to the Holocaust.

                  - Wants to limit a couple's ability to have in-vitro fertilization.

                  - Wants teaching of intelligent design alongside evolution in schools.

                  - Converted to the Roman Catholic church in 2002, with the assistance of fellow Republican Senator Rick Santorum.

                  - Introduced a bill called the Truth in Video Game Rating Act (S.3935), which would regulate the rating system of computer and video games

                  - Voted for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marrage. He is also against same-sex civil unions. In a Rolling Stone interview, he is quoted as having criticized Sweden for allowing same-sex civil unions. "You'll know them by their fruits," Brownback said, quoting Matthew 7:19.

                  - Wants to be a presidential candidate in 2008. Says he'll announce his intentions to run after the November elections. Pat Robertson voiced support of a Brownback presidential bid.

                  - Known commonly by his nickname "God's Senator".

                  Oh btw:

                  Brownback accepted $42,000 from Jack Abramoff, a disgraced ex-lobbyist involved in a wide-reaching public corruption scandal.
