My dad is a retired pastor. I had to memorize scriptures for Bible quizzes. I'm quite familiar with theology.
Don't worry, I've been in church every Sunday and spend a lot of time on the phone with "Christians". And if you'll notice, I'm mostly in GFY threads that are about ME. There are a few exceptions to that, but not many since September 25th.

I think that you are missed one very important part. Any time that you introduce a paradigm shift into a relationship, unless all parties are in accord there will be friction and if one party is less equipped to deal with change the natural and visceral reaction is to flee the situation that causes the discomfort.
You can apply all the moral /ethical/ religious color to this that you want but the fact is that there is only ONE reason that people make polar shifts in their lives. When people feel that their choices have been limited to a degree that they see not way to easily affect change many often make powerful shifts. Some turn to drugs to change their internal state. Others turn to religion and still others commit suicide. In every case except the latter the pain and disease continue.
Quitting porn, giving all your money to the church of the rising sun nor terminating your relationship will make any of the things that are going on inside suddenly vanish. Donny needs some professional therapy and that is an obvious fact. My guess is that he feel out of control and making this shift is a really good way to shirk responsibility.
Both Donny and Belinda are having the same reaction to a common pain. Donny is running to the Lord to escape responsibility for his life and Belinda is running away to escape responsibility for her issues.
