HANCOCK ? A Hancock couple accused of growing 300 indoor marijuana plants was in Marquette federal court Wednesday for an initial hearing on felony drug charges.
Joseph K. Olsen, 24, and Jessica Olsen, 25, were released on an unsecured bond by U.S. District Court Magistrate Timothy P. Greeley.
Greeley read the Olsens their rights and the charges facing them, which carry a minimum of four years and a maximum of 40 years in prison.
They are expected to be charged in February with conspiracy to manufacture over 100 marijuana plants. A grand jury will hear the evidence against them and may file affidavits for their arraignments.
They likely will be charged, said Nils Kessler, assistant U.S. attorney for the Western District of Michigan.
In an unrelated case, Joseph Olsen was convicted in February 1997 of attempted marijuana delivery and manufacturing. He was sentenced to six months in the Houghton County Jail and three years probation in March 1997.
In the latest case, the Olsens? Minnesota Street residence was raided Jan. 15 by officers from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team. UPSET seized 300 marijuana plants, two to three pounds of processed marijuana and indoor growing equipment. The potential street value of the seized plants is over $300,000, police said.
UPSET Detective Jason Wickstrom said marijuana dealers typically try to grow a pound of marijuana per plant. The estimated value of each pound is $1,000.
?It was a very large quantity,? said Kessler, which is the reason federal charges are being sought.
Hancock police assisted local police agencies and UPSET with the investigation and raid. Chief Mike Beaudoin said he?s pleased with the seizure.
?There was a substantial amount of drugs manufactured for sale here,? Beaudoin said. ?We are extremely happy.?


I think that he's gonna be fucked for quite a while, federal charges. I guess that pot doesn't pay, he he he. Just think though, the street value on what he had was $300K, that's amazing money there. Kinda gets me thinking....... he he he he. I think that I'll stick to porn.

It's strange how pot smokers always feel it's necessary to announce the fact that they smoke weed. Who cares? It's like gay pride rallies. You like it in the pooper by other guys....so what? You smoke weed....so what? You never see heterosexual men announcing "I LOVE PUSSY". You never see folks who DON'T smoke bragging about how stoned they DIDN'T get last night.

I personally don't smoke weed. I don't have anything against those that do. To each his/her own. One thing though. Does pot make you insecure? It seems every pot smoker that I know is looking for some kind of "nod of approval". They always seem to be saying "I smoke weed, I'm cool......right?".

I use to know this chick who smoked pot daily when i was younger. Then she went off to college for while and I heard she smoked tons more. A few years later i saw her at a club. From an outside standpoint, i notice a huge fucking difference. The stupid chick spoke so slow, it was like who the fuck are you? She wasn't even stoned at the club. I was told she didn't smoke pot for the past three days. But she smoked so much pot over the years she just naturally became "slow." I saw another friend who mentioned this is normal for her. I knew pot could do damage, but this was fucked. She use to be a very bright girl..and extremely sharp. Nothing could get past her.
Now she's just really slow and stupid.

Once in a while is ok, but not all day, every day.

They think it's cool, so they think it makes them look cool.
But it ain't cool.
That said, I don't have a problem with those that smoke it.
Just don't blow that shit in my face.
I think of pot smokers the same as normal smokers. Don't have a problem with them as people, but don't come near me when you smoke that stinky stuff.
