    Sewer gas causes "suspended animation"

Fresh, and still steaming off the BBC:

"Hydrogen sulphide, a toxic gas that smells of rotten eggs, occurs naturally in swamps, springs and volcanoes.

But in mice, it was found to slow down heart rate and breathing and decrease body temperature, while keeping a normal blood pressure."

No wonder I spend so much time in the shitter.

Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs was just at a 'dirty job' earlier today on his show and they were in a water treatment plant, and they had an alarm go off because of this gas, and they had to leave the sewer they were working in, and they gave a synopsis of this.
