This started with 9/11. The entire reason Bush touted this war to begin with was Saddam was such a threat with his big bad WMD's and terrorism. Now somehow the focus has been shifted a little at a time to helping the Iraqi people. If the US gave a flying fuck about the Iraqi people this would have been done a long, long time ago. Saddam was not, and would not have ever been a threat to the United States. Funny that at the same time Bush was bitching about Saddam's WMD's Korea was waving them in our face and giving us the big Fuck You. You don't even find it funny that Bush wants to settle the Korea problem diplomatically but Saddam has to be removed immediately. People are suffering in Korea because of the US. Why aren't we "liberating" them by blowing their family members into 1000 pieces? Everyone expects politicians to have their own agenda but we also expect them to cover it up. Bush waves it in everyones face yet so many people believe his lying ass when he gets on TV and smirks for the camera.

Regarding the whole 'how come if we go after one country with WMD's we don't go after all of them' argument. You're saying it WOULD be better to be consistent and go after all of the countries violating various non-proliferation agreements they have signed? Somehow I doubt if the US takes a hardline stance with North Korea after this conflict that you will suddenly be happy one the grounds of being more consistent.
That there is not strict adherence to any one simple policy should surprise no one. Consider the $70 billion price tag assigned to this war and the tremendous political capital involved in waging it.
As far as "helping the Iraqi people". That's good marketing too. The simple fact that many [not all] Iraqi's see the coalition not targetting power plants and civilian areas and bringing humanitarian supplies has greatly reduced the resistance to coalition forces. All the dire predictions about a siege of Baghdad causing hundreds of thousands to flee Baghdad and thousands of coalition casualties has have not come true. Why?
