    Great Colin Powell quote

When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just empire building by George Bush.

His answer: "Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return."

It became very quiet in the room.

    Fuck yeah?

pretty good if it was spontaeneous, and not pre-prepared by a speechwriter.

It sounds like it was pure Colin Powell, but I am suspect he put some thought into it and was waiting for the opportunity to use it.

I like Colin Powell and was disappointed when he left the military and came out as being a Republican, but it is understandable, as he spent a "life time" in the military and Republicans are always bigger on defense spending, R&D etc. than most Democrats. Career military people in general are more subject to be oriented towards Republicans than Democrats.
