How NOT to use a Heating Pad... Lesson Learned the Hard Way!!!

If you are having a bad day, you may find some humor in this:

I had not slept in 3 days so I was exhausted so I basically tipped over on my couch on my tummy. I landed on a heating pad, on high, without the protective fabric cover and didn't budge for 6 hours. I woke up with 1st and 2nd degree burns all over my boobs. I had NO idea those things could cause that much damage. I know that skin is sensitive and you aren't supposed to lay ON them, but I didn't plan it.

Yeah, PRETTY DAMN PAINFUL! The lesson to be learned: Don't sleep with your heating pads.

So, if you thought your day sucked, I hope this makes you feel better. lol

Funny thing about it is that my chest hurt in all my dreams, but I was just too over tired and sleep deprived to wake up while I was smoldering away.

Hon, that is the first thing I did after I woke up and looked down!!! There isn't much they can do other than give me prescription cream, told me not to pop the blisters and keep them covered with this gauzy stuff.
The Good News is that I will have scaring, but Doc doesn't think it will be that bad. (Nipples are already pink so a pink scar won't show when all is said and done). I hope.

Thanks for the well wishes, but I've NEVER done an illegal drug in my life. The only coke I've ever seen is in movies. Stress and messed up hours is what kept me up. (And an overload on Diet Dew prob didn't help.)

Atleast I now know you can cook on a heating pad. lol (I think it might have been defective, but either way, I'm never using one again.)

Night, all, I'm actually tired! I hope all you have a wonderful evening.

Sorry you cooked your tata's using slow heat.

BTW really watch em carefully and do get onto an antibiotic. I am normall against the typical use of them but most people who have burn issues have a very good chance of infection.

I did something similar - oldschool heating pad on high (no thermal sensors), ended up passing out. I've actually got a nicely sized dark brown blotch left from the burn - over 10 years later.

Hope you have some silvadine with that gauze!

I literally just finished a 10 day round of antibiotics from an animal bite that penetrated my finger nail, plus tetnus, wouldn't that still be in my system? I'm really not supposed to take them unless it's urgent, which is why my doc didn't put me on them, but then again, he's a moron. He's misdiagnosed me several times, sending me to the ER to get a proper DX. (HMOs suck)

Reminds me of the old story about if you throw a frog in boiling water it jumps right out. But if you put the frog in room temperature water and slowly bring it to a boil, it won't budge.

I'm really not supposed to take them unless it's urgent, which is why my doc didn't put me on them, but then again, he's a moron. He's misdiagnosed me several times, sending me to the ER to get a proper DX. (HMOs suck)
I am all to familiar with burns. Spent a great deal of time in a burn center. I wasn't burned, better for plastic surgery and they needed a minimum number of patients to stay open. I also have burned myself way to many times due to my anemia which makes me real cold so I cuddle the heater.

Every single issue from small to the most common fatalities from burns resulted from infection. Once you hit 2nd degree or worse, that particular area is unable to fight infection for some time. The necrotic tissue is also a breeding ground for infections, it is warm, moist, and there are no antibodies fighting it off.

Typically they will provide you with silvadene or another topical cream for burns. They often help in removing the dead flesh as well as fight infection, if and a big if, you change the dressings at least three times a day. With second degree or less you can however use an over the counter such as Bacitracin or Polysporin which also helps kill infection, avoid neosporin as it causes an allergic reaction with many that leads to more scaring. Other wise an oral anti biotic. Boost your vitamin c intake to 500mg or more. You will pee out the extra and it helps with wound healing.

When the burn begins to scab up and heal. It is highly important to use a skin lotion high in vitamin e or straight vitamin e on the area. This really helps with long term scaring. Leave the scab alone. Keep it covered in ointment or lotion.

There are types you microwave and they hold the heat for a little while.

There are electrical types that heat to a certain set temperature. Though even 105 to 110 can still burn you over a period of time, aka slow cooking. I use mine electrical one mostly to sit under a metal bowl to melt chocolate.

All types are normally used to ease pain, relax muscles, etc.
