How do you post your own bail from jail?

Most people use their phone call to have a friend or family member come bail them out, but can you bail yourself out? How does that work?

I would guess that some states let you pay cash.

The only way is if it is for a small offense like a DUI, they give you a PR (Personal Recognisance) Bond... and yes, I know from experience.

If you personally know someone high up .. you could possibly be released on your own recognance.. otherwise

Once you call a bondsman.. unless they personally know you and like you / know you are a stable person in the community and going nowhere... lol..

you will have to have someone sign you out and take responsibility for you showing up for your court date ....

plus pay or put down colateral equal to or more than your actual bail.. before being able to get out.

My hubby was a bailbondsman for years :-)

Very dangerous job.. I am so glad those years are over!

A bondsman will not accept a credit card. At least they didn't 25 years ago or so. And if you are in jail on a warrant arrest for "failure to appear", a bondsman will not aide you in your release. First offense and minor misdemeanors and infractions will sometimes get you out on an "OR." Too fucking many bodies craming the jail systems!

If you have the cash on you when you get arrested, it is placed on your books... and I know in Washington State (a friend told me of course ), you can post your own bail. Maybe if you are lucky the police will stop on the way to the jail and let you hit the ATM

                              not true..

In 1950, Diners Club and American Express launched their charge cards in the USA, the first "plastic money". In 1951, Diners Club issued the first credit card to 200 customers who could use it at 27 restaurants in New York. But it was only until the establishment of standards for the magnetic strip in 1970 that the credit card became part of the information age.

The first use of magnetic stripes on cards was in the early 1960?s, when the London Transit Authority installed a magnetic stripe system.

Bank of America expands its bankcard program by forming the BankAmericard Service Corporation, licensing banks outside of California to issue cards to their customers. Because the cost of bankcard programs is shared among its member financial institutions, even small banks across the country are able to join. The Interbank Card Association, which later becomes Master Charge, is formed.
