    WTF is a "political strategist"?

    On ever cable news show they have a new "Democratic Strategist" or "Republican Strategist" on to debate. I mean I've seen hundreds over the years.

    Now what the fuck do these people do? I can understand having some people brainstorming here and there, but what is a "strategist" and just how many of these fucking idiots do you need?

    Is "strategist" nice for "party whore who reads talking points on the air"?

          The job title should really be "Political Truth Bender"

          And... on the same subject, WTF is up with lobbyists? There are over 7000 (?) lobby groups in Washington trying to stuff their vote/opinion into what is supposed to be a democratic government carrying out the election pledges of those elected. (OK.. don't smirk )

              Well atleast I know what a lobbyist does. I can't figure out what a strategist does. There are tons of them, do they all have jobs?

                      Suppose the job spec can vary - but basically milk any situation for what it's worth and bend all rational thinking if it calls for that. Some feed the media with an angle, others write blogs under various names, others may try and keep Young George from saying too much. Rove is a "political stategist" irrespective of any other title he may be given.

                      Only my - there are far too many damned "strategists" and bullshitters - ya got to waste time reading between the lines to get any truth.

                                      Too many people are called political strategists, who really are no more than talking heads. The influential political strategists are not only spin doctors, but the people who plan what we are going to think. Their job begins before deciding how issues will be presented: they decide (at least so far as they can control events) what will be the focus of the campaign for which they are working.

                                      They analyse what will appeal most to their own supporters and more importantly, to the floating voters (and also what to avoid talking about if possible). They attempt to anticipate what their opponent's strategy is likely to be, and how to respond to it. They determine where their candidate's finances and other resources are likely to be critical and best deployed.

                                          I can speak from some personal experience - in a past life I was a VERY highly paid political "consultant".

                                          Apart from a highly defined ability to bullshit constantly, the best description can be as a hitman with highly developed PR skills.

                                          See, the key is to spin your shit the best way while burying any fucker (on their side OR yours) that gets the fuck in your way.

                                          And with either, doing it as quickly, efficiently and clincially as possible.

                                          It is the main reason I refuse to vote these days.

                                          ALL of the motherfuckers are exactly THE SAME.
