    How can people not believe there is life on other planets?

    Sure, the earth is the only planet in our solar system with life, but look at how many stars there are in the sky! If each of those stars have at least a few planets.....What are the odds that one of those planets have at least one life form? Taking into account that the Earth has...How many billions of life forms??

    You'd be a completely closed minded, fucking fool, not to be open to the idea.

                                              The typical argument utilizes Drake's equation. The problem though is that the size of the Universe (vast) is only part of the equation. The other part is the odds per planet of life developing and no one knows anything about that at all. Is it one in ten. Is it one in one billion? Is it one divided by the number of planets in the Universe?

                                              One might ask where would life come from. You might then speculate that abiogenesis is the answer. Molecules combine in such a way that a self-replicating molecule is created. The odds of this, though, are apparently extremely low. Some have calculated it as to be so low that it is not even possible. This is a typical argument used by creationists. I don't agree with the creationists' "not possible" but they might be onto something. It might be so low as to only have happened once. Or then again, maybe there is some as yet undiscovered self-organization which makes it quite likely.

                                              One should also be open to the idea that there is no other life in the Universe.

                                                                      other life form does fall to earth and anytime you want to prove that, watch the science channel when they do documentaries about the ice cores taken from greenland for research. those cores show life going back millions of years.

                                                                      just because it is not in "human" form, does not mean it's not a life form. it's a life in a different form that's all.

When you consider the size of the universe, it's unlikely that we're the only planet with some sort of life form. But actually grasping the size of the universe isn't an easy thing to do...for me at least.

                                                                                                                                                                                      3) i seriously doubt that any life thats intelligent enough to find a way across the universe to come visit hasn't pondered the question of the consequences of just showing up unannounced, the consequences of what harm they could cause with contaminates, what harm might come to them from contaminates here etc.

                                                                                                                                                                                      that being said.. the odds of other life in the universe existing at all, is impossibly small. the odds of intelligent life existing is beyond impossibly small.
