    I need a new windshield

    Driving home tonight and my rear view mirror falls off...figured it was just the glue. I look at my windshield and notice a small chunk of it is missing.

    The metal piece just ripped some of it off. Anyone ever have that happen? iIdn't think that was possible.

                              The rearview mirror fell off not too long ago so I'm guessing the glue that kept the button on was a bit potent.

                                          Already scheduled the windshield glass people to come by in a couple days. Insurance is handling it.

                                                                                      The windshield costs around $500. I only have to pay the $50 deductable. Actually, I just searched a few places who will do the install/replacement and they'll even pay my deductable.

                                                                                                  I broke my windshield on my US tour, and was concerned that it might ne pretty pricey because it was a new body style, but think $250 wasn't too bad. I guess I should look at my policy and see if windshields get some kind of a break (pardon the pun)

                                                                                                      Insurance mentioned how they were a bit more than the average windshield...may have to do w/ the size and taht HUD works on them?

                                                                                                          I'd definately check. I have Geico and it's only a $50 deductable for windshield coverage. If there's something wrong on the inside, they replace it completely. If it's on the outside and smaller than a dolalr bill, they send someone out to try to repair it first.

                                                                                                          My girlfriend uses Nationwide and her windshield coverage is 100% (she doesn't pay a penny no matter what).

                                                                                                              I have GEICO, and there was no way this was going to be "fixed." When I called the guy his first opinion over the phone was, "maybe we can fix it." I knew this wasn't going to be the case.

                                                                                                              When I was going thru Utah, a semi kicked up a huge rock and tossed it at my windshield. I thought I was a goner, but was surprised when it seemed to just bounce off. I even pulled over at the next rest area to check it out and could not see where it hit. I did find the rock though. It was so big that at 85 MPH it did not bounce off, but rather just rolled down to rest by the wiper blades.

                                                                                                              Later I had to pull over at a service station to clean the bugs off the windshield (I couldn't see shit), and when I cleaned it, I saw where the rock had hit. Close to center, right at the bottom of the glass. It looked like it had been hit by a small hammer, it was so crushed. I knew I was screwed.

                                                                                                              By the next morning I had 2 spiders about 7-10 inches each.
