I was on my to FedEx and needed a cashiers check for $1000. The teller tells me I need a Wells Fargo acct. and that I cannot just giver her cash to get a cashier's check and pay the cashier's check fee. What a bunch of retards. The next bank I stopped at thought it was odd that Wells Fargo said that too. Guess they dont want to make money!

i dont know where you have been... thats a pretty common policy with banks. just because some 10.00 per hour teller thinks its odd, doesn't mean you have unlocked the secrets of the universe.Originally posted by BusterPornI was on my to FedEx and needed a cashiers check for $1000. So, they do not want cash and to collect a fee? My bank issues a cashier's check to anyone with cash.Originally posted by Pleasurepaysi dont know where you have been... thats a pretty common policy with banks. just because some 10.00 per hour teller thinks its odd, doesn't mean you have unlocked the secrets of the universe.

The policy started due to money laundering and counterfeiters. Counterfeiters would take the cashier?s check and bleach the names and amounts out and increase the value. If you don?t have an account with them they have no recourse. It?s probably not that big of a problem anymore, but ultimately all they care about are their customers. The cashier?s check fee just covers overhead, they don?t do it because of the huge profit margin.Originally posted by BusterPornI was on my to FedEx and needed a cashiers check for $1000. dude.... i dont know what their motivation is. i am however intelligent enough to assume that banks do this for a reason being that it is a very common policy with banks.Comment
