I think this thread has gone a long why. Basically proving that the US is unsafe in many places because of their guns policy. But it IS possible to turn around. No pain no gain. I feel for people like pr0 who needs a gun to feel safe.

There wasn't always been such strict laws in Norway. Some people may have died in the "revolution" but the long term positive effect i am sure has far outweighted the small period of "unrest".

As for gun control, I personally don't like guns but do not agree with all arguments of the anti gun lobby either. I used to live in Switzerland, a country with one of the lowest (gun related) homicide rates. Every adult male Swiss citizen is required by law to have an assault rifle at home.

Intelligent woman here....she knows all about the swiss. Almost ZERO homicides related to guns per year....yet EVERY home by law is made to have one.

The swiss do have some strange traditions when it comes to weapons. Haven't seen that law though, seems a bit much. Anyway the death number isn't that low, it might be low based on how many guns there are, but still its only 1/8 of US numbers and US number is HUGE.

You can simply take the socialist/left view where you can let the government protect and take care of you, which doesn't seem to work ALL the time.... OR ... you can take personal responsibility and take the protection of home and family into your own hands.

I think that one of the greatest threats to democracy is life sentance. Just imagine how "easy" it is to put away someone simply because he is an inconvenience.

The mafia could pay their way OUT of a sentance, i'm sure certain people can pay (or fabricate evidence) to get someone convicted.

I grew up with a family that was a bunch of card carrying IRA idiots. I know 1 person that has a concealed weapons permit and i am related him. He doesn't carry the gun with him.
