    Detroit : What's it REALLY like ??

    I'm supposed to be heading over for 2 weeks or so in the Summer. Gonna visit some people we know. I've heard it's a shithole in general. Is it really that bad ? Or is it only certain areas which are to be avoided?

    What is there to see and do, from a tourist point of view, if anything ??

      There is tons of big poor friendly negros smoking crack who are non violent and just love it when a scottish guy comes rolling through their town.

      they will put out a welcoming mat they are so friendly.

      ive driven through downtown detroit was fun! interesting place for sure.

                          People say "Detroit" often when they refer to any of the millions of suburbs surrounding it though too so it mostly matters which of them you'll be staying in for the trip.

                              When I was in Detroit a week before I joined Twistys -- it was like being inside Grand Theft Auto. It is without a doubt, the most fucked up place I have been in America. The close second is Overtown in Miami.

                                      Downtown Detroit isn't that bad and lots of things to do. Check out the Detroit Institute of Arts for sure. Excellent wide collection of art. They got African art, mummies etc. The Science Center is pretty cool. Catch a ball game at Comerica park. Gamble and eat in Greektown. Some pretty decent bars downtown as well.

                                          Detroit the actually city is fucked up. One block will be nice and the next may be all abandoned crack shacks. That being said I assure you there are many many nice suburbs that are clean and safe like the ones myself, Brad from Mojo, Pete from Satan Cash and Lou from Karups live in.

                                              Like Charles said the suburbs are pretty solid and there are many parts of Detroit I would not venture but there are still some great parts of downtown with good things to do.

                                                  Windsor is boring. I was there Thursday till Saturday. Specially when I'm used to Toronto for partying and having fun.
