Hey big guy I am an engineer and you are thinking of Newton's THIRD Law of Physics, his first is "A body at rest, tends to stay at rest. A body in motion tends to stay in motion." Oh and for all of you who believe the gov't has a political agenda there, yes they do. But the SOLDIERS are there becuase they have an innate desire to help and make a country safe for people to live in and practice and worship their own religion in. Also for those of you who have never had any kind of formal military education or lecture, the military does not just "do its own thing" we as military officers and enlisted cannot declare war whenever we want, the military is an extension of the public opinion; I must therefore ask, have your own beliefs, have your won values, hate the politicians and others all you want, but I ask you do not hate the men and women that put their entire lives on hold to pursue what they believe is a noble cause, without the politics and crap left for them to deal with selflessly when they come home. Any real soldier, warrior, waits patiently for the day that he can come home, and say "There will be no more war, and so I am out of a job, and happy about it." Until then, for all you filled with hatred still, I will honorably hold my head up and walk by as you call me a "hate-mongerer", or "war-mongerer" and mind the fence from the wolves that would prey upon you, not looking for thanks or praise, but because is is the right thing to do. And for all you foreign military, I pray for your safe return to your homes and loved one, for you too have undertaken the greatest of tasks of this world, with no need for respect or admiration from your peers. And for those of you who have lost loved ones, be they USMC, USAF, USN, or US Army, and for our foreign brothers and sisters, as a military officer, I send my deepest regrets and condolences to you, and I can only say that I am proud to serve with them, and I know they passed on with dignity and honor, that befitting of someone of their high moral character. Astounding.159.Canadians and US troops and all the other European countries need to get the hell out of Afghanistan, alas it's a bit too late as they've reaped so much damage that Afghanistan can probably never stand on it's own 2 feet again. The soviets really messed up the country, but the US and Canada removed any future chance of growth - the land is so hideously ravaged by war that a lot of the good rich soil is incapable of growing crops. What's left is relegated to opium, which can grow in harsher soil.
There's no honour deserved to the dead soldiers of Afghanistan, while they will be mourned by their families - they will get no respect and no honor from me. They died fighting an unjust war, a war based on revenge and retaliation, a war more engulfed in racism and blind hatred than in actual understanding. There was no legitimacy in the post-9/11 attack on Afghanistan - and while the Taliban was a horrible regime, they were not Afghani, they were merely extremists from around the world who took over Afghanistan after fighting the soviets.
Many of us in the USA still believe that Afghanistan was a just war, they are the blind who were so stupidly convinced that an attack on the civilians in Afghanistan would heal the wounds of 9/11. Many of the soldiers that join, do so knowing they will be sent to Afghanistan and many are racist and want to kill the Afghanis thinking that they are solely responsible for 9/11. It's this idiocy that makes me not have any compassion for the troops there.
No remorse, no compassion, no respect and absolutely no humility for those that choose to fight.

MY brother is due to do his first tour of Afghanistan soon as part of the Australian contingent. They are deep in the south of the country in some of the most dangerous spots so I am a little worried for him. Would be an amazing experience though.IW

Well, most people don't know that a large majority of our troops as well as mercs are indeed guarding the poppy fields and it's being funded by pharmaceutical companies. One of my best friends works for a PMC that is there right now doing just that.

90% of the worlds poppies come from Afghanistan. Think of the money involved here. The next best thing after oil is drugs.
