Aside from it being a huge mistake, he was so damn bad at it that once they canned his ass (pretty quick) Lensman at the time made it so that there can be no more remote mods as a new rule.
In other words his fuck up was the GFY equivalent of the Hitler stash. Nobody else can pull it off again.
