Is shared hostgator hosting ideal for a TGP?

Hostgator wont let you 777 a specific directory in order to use a TGP script. I found this out the hard way. =(
When they kick your front door, how you gonna come? With your hand's on your head, or on the trigger of your gun.

Seriously?? I was calling the help desk, sending in trouble tickets and live chat and they all told me that Hostgator no longer allows any directories CHMOD to 777. They even had me talk to a supervisor who told me the same thing. What script are you using?

777 means anybody can read, write and execute.

on a shared environnement, it is a security issue, since scripts can be uploaded and executed in that directory ...

Bo$$, I hope everything works out for you with your current host! They are a very good company so should be able to work with you. If for some reason, due to the specific issues mentioned here, you are forced to look at other hosting options, let me know and I will be happy to see if we can help you! Thanks and good luck!

Bo$$ you should not have any problem. i am even strea, ing from their shared host and they are pretty quick and good and 2500 should not be a problem for them. never had a problem with them. I am still trying to get to limit of what their shared host can handel. Also don“t worry about the 777 i just checked it and it works fine with me.

I had a dedicated with hostgator a while back. It was a good machine but their support sucked. Every time I called they had to "escalate" the question to one of their higher level techs. Even for simple stuff. Bandwidth and pricing was pretty good. Not sure about their shared accounts. Didn't touch any of them.
