That's a St. Andrew's Cross spider. They are gorgeous and make huge nets sometimes between two trees. They are harmless to humans. Please don't kill them, they're wondrous creatures.Comment

Yep that be an orb spider or banana or zipper spider what ever ya call it in your neckl of the woods - I have one out on my front porch beams that stays there till she dies - since spiders die after 1 year - and they really keep the mosquitos way down - heres a little pic on mine:
You can see her relative size in this pic - shes in the left-hand lower corner -
