    BMW Hydrogen 7

    Finally
MUNICH (Reuters) - BMW will roll out the world's first hydrogen-burning car in serial production early next year, the German premium automaker said on Tuesday, eager to put its stamp on cars with green credentials.

The specially equipped 7-Series executive cars emit only water vapor when running on hydrogen.

The car hits the market next April and will be shown at the Los Angeles car show in November, the company said. It had said in March the hydrogen cars would arrive within two years.

A spokesman said the car would be leased to selected customers rather than sold because of its high price. Leasing rates would be similar to those for a top-end BMW 760LI with a full-service package.

The BMW 7 Series Hydrogen 7 Saloon is powered by a 260 hp twelve-cylinder engine and accelerates from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 9.5 seconds. Top speed is limited electronically to 230 km/h.

I remember hearing something about technology like this from BMW about 10 years ago but oil lobbying was preventing them from developing it...anyone else ever hear the same story?

I bought a brand new 7-series less than 3 years ago. I will never EVER buy a BMW ever again. That brand will never get a penny from me.

umm.. you fill a balloon full of gasoline and set it on fire and it will go up just as badly as a zeppelin full of hydrogen lol. Both are massively different to a hydrogen fuel cell.

ethanol is already here and used in blends. Biofuels will be big though.

I am aware of that. Yet if I drop a lit match into a bucket of gas it will go out. I drop a match near hydrogen and it will go boom.

Now judging the people use see working at gas stations as well as the average US citizen, do you really want to mix that sort of intellect with such a fuel?

The Facts on the Hindenburg Disaster:
                                                    1. The bags of hydrogen that provided the lifting force for the Hindenburg were NOT the main contributor to the fire. The surface of the ship was coated with a combination of dark iron oxide and reflective aluminum paint. These components are extremely flammable and burn at a tremendously energetic rate once ignited. The skin of the airship was ignited by electrical discharge from the clouds while docking during an electrical storm. This reaction has been proven chemically for years, and was demonstrated with actual remnants of the Hindenburg sixty years later, which burned as vigorously as on the day of the disaster.
                                                    2. The hydrogen burned quickly, safely, above the occupants. When the escaping hydrogen was ignited by the burning skin of the airship, it burned far above the airship, and was completely consumed within 60 seconds of the ignition. During this period of time, the airship descended to the ground from the 150-foot docking tower.
                                                    3. Almost all deaths were caused by jumping or falling from the airship. Of the 35 deaths from the disaster, 33 were caused by jumping or falling. Only two deaths were caused by burning, and it is likely that those two were from proximity to the burning skin of the airship, or from the stores of diesel fuel that were ignited by the covering. Whereas the hydrogen burned within one minute of ignition, the diesel fires burned for up to ten hours after the ignition.
                                                    4. The Hindenburg would have burned if it had been filled with inert helium gas. Even if the Hindenburg had not been lifted by hydrogen, the ignition of the covering would still have happened, and would then have set ablaze the diesel stores, resulting in the same disaster.
                                                    5. The main cause of the disaster was pilot error. The only way to prevent the disaster would have been if the pilot had chosen to land in better conditions elsewhere, which was very feasible, considering he had had enough fuel remaining to reach all the way to California.

The US Macon (air ship) that went down in 35 off the coast of CA, is being viewed by subs today.

Now judging the people use see working at gas stations as well as the average US citizen, do you really want to mix that sort of intellect with such a fuel?
what year are you living in now ASM?

Technology has advanced a lot in the last 50 years. We have hot water and eletrcity in every home now!

Cars are also out that are powerd by nuclear technology. Extremely safe too.
